About The Role
The Principal, Data Engineering at Cargill is a strategic leadership role responsible for guiding the development, optimization, and maintenance of our data systems. This role requires a visionary approach to designing scalable, efficient, and robust data pipelines and infrastructure that support advanced analytics, reporting, and decision-making processes across the organization. As a key driver of data strategy, the Principal will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data assets are accessible, reliable, and aligned with business objectives. This position offers an opportunity to influence enterprise-wide data architecture, adopt innovative technologies, and promote best practices in data engineering.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in data engineering, with a strong background in designing and implementing large-scale data solutions. Typically, candidates will have over 10 years of experience in data management, architecture, or related fields. Preferred qualifications include expertise in cloud data platforms, data ingestion, streaming, transformation, and DevOps practices. Demonstrated leadership in defining technical standards and establishing best practices is essential. Candidates should have hands-on experience with technologies such as Snowflake, AWS, Kafka, Flink, Spark, Iceberg, and Parquet, along with a strategic mindset for making architecture decisions that balance speed, cost, risk, and flexibility.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable data pipelines that facilitate the seamless movement of data from various sources to internal databases, ensuring data quality and consistency.
- Influence the construction and optimization of data infrastructure, selecting appropriate data formats to enhance data usability and accessibility across organizational units.
- Identify opportunities for improving data formats and structures to maximize data efficiency and facilitate easier analysis and reporting.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across departments to understand their data needs and align data strategies with business goals.
- Lead the development and implementation of data products and solutions utilizing advanced engineering techniques and cloud-based technologies, ensuring they are scalable, sustainable, and robust.
- Drive the development of technical standards and prototypes to test new data frameworks, architecture patterns, and methodologies supporting efficient data processing and analysis.
- Develop automated reporting systems that deliver timely insights, enabling data-driven decision-making at all levels of the organization.
- Provide thought leadership on data modeling, preparing data in databases for analytics tools, and developing pipelines to enhance data assets.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in data security, governance, and compliance, maintaining high standards of data integrity and privacy.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to implement CI/CD pipelines, monitor system performance, and ensure reliable deployment of data solutions.
