Job Summary : We are looking for a skilled Data Center Support Engineer with strong experience in Fiber Optics, OTDR Testing, Dark Fiber standards, and troubleshooting of fiber infrastructure within Data Center environments. The candidate should have hands-on expertise in OTDR trace analysis, fiber fault isolation, splice/link testing, and understanding of dead zone impacts and OTDR acquisition settings for both short-shot and long-shot testing scenarios.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Fiber Optic testing, validation, and troubleshooting within Data Center environments.
- Conduct OTDR testing and analyze OTDR traces for fault identification and link performance.
- Interpret OTDR symbols, events, reflections, splice losses, connector losses, and fiber anomalies.
- Work on Dark Fiber infrastructure standards, fiber acceptance testing, and documentation.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues related to: High attenuation, Macro/Micro bends, Dirty connectors, Splice losses, Fiber cuts, reflection issues
- Understand and analyze: Dead Zone impact / Event Dead Zone /Attenuation Dead Zone / Configure and optimize OTDR Trace Acquisition Settings based on testing requirements.
- Execute: Short Shot OTDR settings for intra-DC and short-distance links / Long Shot OTDR settings for long-haul/backbone fiber links / Validate fiber continuity, loss budget, and link certification standards.
- Coordinate with Operations, Network, and Cabling teams for issue resolution.
- Maintain testing reports, OTDR trace documentation, and RCA reports.
- Support installation, migration, and maintenance activities within Data Centers.
Required Technical Skills : Fiber Optics & OTDR
- Strong hands-on experience with: OTDR Tools and Trace Analysis / Fiber Characterization /Fiber Troubleshooting / Link Loss Analysis
- Good understanding of: OTDR Symbols and Events / Reflective vs Non-Reflective Events / Ghost Events Fiber End Detection / Dead Zone Concepts and Impact
- Experience with:
- Short Shot OTDR configuration
- Long Shot OTDR configuration
- Pulse Width Selection and Averaging Time and Range Settings
- Index of Refraction (IOR)
- Wavelength testing
