Role Overview
Avaada is looking for a Design Engineer Lead to support the design and engineering function of mission critical data center infrastructure projects. The role will involve working across the project lifecycle, including site due diligence, concept design, detailed engineering, technical documentation, vendor coordination, and construction/commissioning support.
The candidate should have a Degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering with a proven cross-disciplinary track record and Dedicated experience in Tier III / Tier IV Mission-Critical Data Centers or High-Performance Compute (HPC) facilities, industrial infrastructure, renewable energy projects, utilities, or large-scale infrastructure developments. The candidate should understand Integrated System Testing (IST) and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for liquid systems and should be able to assess the testing parameters for the electrical trip systems and mechanical fluid system. This is a hands-on role focused on leading design, technical review, stakeholder communication, and supporting business in the pre-sales effort while leading the technical communication with the customer.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering Coordination
· Support design development for data center and mission-critical infrastructure projects from feasibility to detailed engineering stage.
· Assist in site due diligence, technical feasibility studies, layout planning, utility coordination, and infrastructure planning.
· Ability to work onCDU integration, manage secondary fluid networks, and design transition from facility water systems to the IT rack.
· Hands on knowledge on optimizehybrid architectures balancing liquid cooling infrastructure with air-side systems like Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHX) or Hot/Cold Aisle Containment to handle residual heat.
· Focusing on free cooling optimization, water conservation strategies, and heat rejection efficiency for high-density architectures.
· Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, vendors, and contractors across electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, fire protection, ICT, BMS/EPMS, and security disciplines.
· Review drawings, design calculations, technical specifications, layouts, equipment schedules, and vendor documents.
· Ensure design deliverables are aligned with project requirements, applicable codes, client expectations, and internal quality standards.
· Support preparation and review of engineering documents such as single-line diagrams, load calculations, equipment sizing, Integration of Medium Voltage (MV) chiller topologies, high-density busway systems, and liquid cooling thermal loops (HVAC concepts), power distribution concepts, and technical design notes.
· Provide engineering support during tendering, technical bid evaluation, construction documentation, and execution stages.
· Review RFIs, shop drawings, technical submittals, and site queries during project implementation.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
· Coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure timely completion of design deliverables.
· Participate in internal reviews, consultant meetings, vendor discussions, and client meetings.
· Highlight design risks, deviations, dependencies, and scope changes to senior team members.
· Support project teams in managing technical clarifications and change-related design inputs.
Technical Customer Leader
· Lead critical client-facing technical discussions to aligninfrastructure architecturewith customer needs, advocating for client requirements during internal execution
· Support business development and pre-sales teams with technical inputs for Techno commercial proposals and client discussions.
· Assist in preparing concept notes, design narratives, preliminary layouts, technical presentations, and engineering assumptions.
· Provide inputs for RFQs, RFPs, compliance statements, scope of work, exclusions, and technical clarifications.
· Participate in client-facing technical discussions and presentations as required.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in electrical / mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline.
· 7–8 years of relevant experience in design engineering / project engineering leading multi-megawatt high-density and liquid-cooled data center topologies.
· Experience in one or more of the following sectors: Data centers, Mission-critical infrastructure, Industrial projects, Renewable energy infrastructure, Power systems, Utilities, Large-scale mechanical/electrical infrastructure
· Ability to review drawings, specifications, technical documents, and vendor submissions.
· Working knowledge of project lifecycle from concept design to execution support (including IST/FAT).
· Experience coordinating with consultants, contractors, vendors, and client-side teams.
Preferred Skills
· Exposure to data center design, colocation facilities, hyperscale infrastructure, or critical power/cooling systems.
· Understanding of electrical systems such as HT/LT distribution, transformers, switchgear, UPS, DG systems, earthing, cabling, and protection systems.
· Understanding of mechanical systems such as HVAC, cooling systems, ventilation, chilled water systems, fire protection, and plumbing systems.
· Familiarity with BMS, EPMS, ICT, security, fire alarm, and integrated building systems.
· Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and design review tools (hands-on experience governing LOD 400 (fabrication/assembly) and LOD 500 (as-built operational twin) workflows for mission-critical facilities)
· Experience in proposal preparation, technical bid support, or pre-sales engineering will be an advantage.
