About the Department
This is a part-time position. Performs technical work providing emergency medical care, maintains records and files, prepares reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the EMT-Lieutenant and EMT-Captain.
Position Duties
Advanced EMT:
- Provides immediate emergency response and intermediate level prehospital medical care to citizens and visitors of the County.
- Provides interim/continuous medical care to patients being transferred to an outlying hospital from a local hospital or urgent care.
- Obtains necessary medical information and composes patient care reports.
- Operates EMS equipment.
- Checks ambulance daily for inventory and/or maintenance issues.
- Trains or assists in training of new hires.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and automobile extraction and transportation; knowledge of the reading of electrocardiograms; knowledge of the principles of anatomy, physiology and chemistry in relation to the respiratory and circulatory systems; thorough knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general public.
Other Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (Basic, Intermediate, Paramedic) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must hold valid state or national certification at the level of the position.
