Contract Type: Freelance / Project-Based
Start: ASAP
Pay: $7–$10/hr
About the Role
We are looking for experienced choreographers and dance movement specialists to join a research-focused annotation project. Your role will be to watch, analyse, and label human movement in video recordings, identifying dance sequences, movement qualities, body mechanics, spatial patterns, and stylistic elements with expert-level precision.
This is not a performance or teaching role. It is detail-oriented analytical work that draws directly on your trained eye as a choreographer. You will use your deep understanding of how the body moves to systematically describe and categorise movement in ways that a non-specialist simply cannot.
If you have spent years studying, creating, and deconstructing dance, and you are comfortable with structured, methodical work, this is an opportunity to apply your expertise in a new and well-compensated context.
What You'll Do
- Review video recordings of human movement and dance performances
- Identify, segment, and label distinct movement phrases, transitions, and sequences
- Annotate movement qualities such as weight, flow, time, and spatial intent
- Classify movements by style, genre, technique, and level of complexity
- Describe spatial patterns, formations, and use of levels (floor, standing, aerial)
- Identify timing, musicality, rhythm patterns, and synchronisation in group choreography
- Follow detailed annotation guidelines and apply labels consistently across videos
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a choreographer (any genre: contemporary, ballet, hip-hop, commercial, traditional, etc.)
- Strong ability to observe, deconstruct, and articulate movement with precision and consistency
- Excellent attention to detail and comfort with repetitive, structured analytical work
- Proficiency in English
- Reliable internet connection and a quiet workspace for focused video review
