Job Description – Curriculum Designer, Early Childhood & Daycare

About the Role
The Banyan is looking for an experienced and creative Curriculum Designer – Early Childhood & Daycare to lead the development, enhancement and implementation of its early childhood curriculum and daycare learning framework.
The role will be responsible for ensuring that The Banyan's curriculum is developmentally appropriate, engaging, play-based, research-informed and aligned with NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS), while also reflecting The Banyan's philosophy and premium positioning.
The person will work closely with Operations, Centre Heads and teachers to ensure that curriculum designed at the corporate level is effectively translated into high-quality classroom experiences across all centres.
Key Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Design & Development
- Design, review and continuously improve The Banyan's Preschool and Early Childhood curriculum.
- Develop age-wise curriculum frameworks for different age groups.
- Create annual, monthly and weekly curriculum plans.
- Develop lesson plans, activity plans, theme plans and classroom resources.
- Develop age-appropriate learning experiences for language, literacy, numeracy, cognitive, physical, social-emotional, creative and cultural development.
- Ensure learning is primarily play-based, activity-based, inquiry-based and experiential, in line with the NCF-FS approach.
- Design developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning experiences.
- Develop curriculum resources, activity sheets, story resources, teacher guides and classroom material.
2. NEP 2020 & NCF-FS Alignment
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS).
- Ensure curriculum reflects the Foundational Stage framework covering ages 3–8 and its emphasis on holistic development.
- Map curriculum outcomes against relevant developmental domains.
- Ensure the curriculum does not become overly worksheet-driven or academically pressurized.
- Incorporate play, exploration, storytelling, music, movement, art, problem-solving and real-life experiences into learning.
- Keep the curriculum updated in line with evolving national education guidance and relevant early-childhood research.
3. Daycare Learning & Development
This is particularly important for The Banyan.
- Develop a structured Daycare Learning & Development Framework rather than treating daycare as only supervision.
- Design age-appropriate activities for infants, toddlers and young children.
- Develop routines covering free play, sensory play, motor development, storytelling, music and movement, creative activities, outdoor play, quiet time and social-emotional development.
- Ensure daycare activities complement the preschool curriculum without creating academic pressure.
- Develop age-wise developmental milestones and observation guidelines.
4. Teacher Resources & Training
- Develop Teacher Manuals and classroom implementation guides.
- Create practical resources that enable teachers to execute the curriculum effectively.
- Conduct regular teacher training and curriculum orientation sessions.
- Coach teachers on play-based and child-centred pedagogy.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify implementation gaps and develop corrective training interventions.
- Work with the Teacher Certification programme to strengthen academic capability.
5. Assessment & Child Development
- Develop age-appropriate child observation and assessment frameworks.
- Create developmental milestone trackers.
- Develop tools for documenting children's progress.
- Ensure assessment is developmentally appropriate and not examination-oriented.
- Establish mechanisms for teachers to identify children requiring additional support.
- Develop appropriate parent-facing formats for communicating children's developmental progress.
6. Curriculum Quality & Audits
- Develop curriculum implementation standards for all Banyan centres.
- Create academic/curriculum audit checklists.
- Conduct periodic classroom observations and curriculum audits.
- Monitor whether planned curriculum is actually being implemented.
- Identify gaps between curriculum design and classroom execution.
- Develop corrective action plans and follow up on implementation.
- Maintain consistency of academic quality across all centres.
7. Content & Learning Resource Development
- Create and review:
- Teacher manuals
- Activity cards
- Story resources
- Learning kits
- Worksheets where developmentally appropriate
- Classroom displays
- Parent learning resources
- Celebration/event activity plans
- Home-learning activities
- Build and maintain a centralized digital curriculum repository.
8. Parent Engagement
- Develop curriculum-related parent communication and engagement initiatives.
- Create parent workshops around early childhood development, school readiness, positive parenting and child development.
- Develop simple ways for parents to understand what their child is learning and why.
- Support Operations and Marketing in communicating The Banyan's academic philosophy.
9. New Centre & Programme Launch
- Support curriculum readiness for all new centre launches.
- Ensure curriculum material, teacher guides and learning resources are available before launch.
- Develop academic onboarding plans for new centres.
- Train new centre teams before commencement.
- Support the Operations team during the initial stabilization period.
10. Curriculum Innovation & Benchmarking
- Track developments in early childhood education, pedagogy and curriculum design.
- Benchmark relevant Indian and international early-years practices.
- Study emerging approaches such as play-based learning, inquiry-based learning, project-based experiences, sensory learning and child-led exploration.
- Evaluate which practices are relevant and practical for The Banyan.
- Continuously improve the curriculum based on classroom observations, teacher feedback, parent feedback and child outcomes.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a professional who combines strong academic knowledge with practical classroom understanding.
Educational Qualification
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in early childhood education / education / child development / psychology / Curriculum & Instruction
- B.Ed / M.Ed
- ECCE / Early Childhood Education / Montessori certification will be an advantage.
Experience
- 7–8+ years of experience in Early Childhood Education / Preschool / Daycare.
- Minimum 4–5 years of hands-on experience in curriculum design/development.
- Experience working with a multi-centre preschool or education organization will be strongly preferred.
- Experience in teacher training and academic quality/audits will be an advantage.
