APRE Art House is a contemporary art gallery based in Colaba, Mumbai, dedicated to advancing rigorous artistic practices and meaningful conversations. Founded by Prerna S.M. Jain, an alumna of Christie’s Education, New York, the gallery was formalised in 2022 as a two-level exhibition space committed to both emerging and established voices whose work engages with pressing socio-political and gender-oriented concerns.
The Gallery has since expanded into a new space at Arshiwala Mansion, a heritage building in Colaba.
APRE’s reach extends beyond Mumbai, with curated projects in New York and New Delhi, and participation in significant art fairs including the India Art Fair. Its public programming (comprising panel discussions, performances, and film screenings) reflects a belief in interdisciplinary engagement as an essential mode of cultural production.
With a programme grounded in research, clarity, and cultural responsiveness, APRE positions itself as a site of critical inquiry within the South Asian contemporary art landscape. The gallery is recognised for its museum-calibre exhibitions, an ethos of transparency, and a sustained commitment to fostering long-term relationships with artists, collectors, and institutions.
Beyond exhibitions, APRE extends its role as a discursive and developmental platform through several key initiatives. Front Matter is a series of curatorial conversations that foreground inquiry into absence, erasure, and evolving modes of exhibition-making. The Forum is APRE’s platform for expansive, cross-disciplinary panel discussions that bring together distinguished voices from the arts, culture, and academia and engage urgent questions in aesthetics, politics, cultural memory and beyond. WARC+ is the Gallery's fellowship on producing critical writing on under-documented women artists.
The APRE Artist Grant reflects the gallery’s belief that critical artistic research is foundational to cultural progress. Conceived as a support structure for artists pursuing experimental or long-term projects, the grant enables recipients to deepen their investigations beyond market or exhibition pressures. By offering resources, visibility, and access to mentorship, the grant embodies APRE’s commitment to nurturing reflective and research-led practices.
Through its considered exhibitions and discursive initiatives, APRE Art House seeks not only to present contemporary art but to contribute substantively to its evolving conversation- locally, regionally, and globally.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Mumbai for a Curatorial & Sales Associate. Responsibilities include curating exhibitions, managing artist relationships, assisting with the gallery’s program, and executing art sales. The role also involves organizing events, conducting artist research, liaising with collectors and institutions, managing inventories, and contributing to marketing initiatives and public relations. The candidate will support the gallery's mission to foster artistic expression and connect with a global audience.
Qualifications
- Experience in curating exhibitions and identifying artists to develop engaging cultural programs.
- Sales and client-relations skills, including the ability to conduct transactions and build relationships with collectors and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in marketing, public relations, and social media for gallery promotion and engagement.
- Strong organizational skills for managing events, artist residencies, and gallery inventory effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for contemporary art.
- Prior experience in the art or cultural sector is a must.
