In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Drive efficiency, cost savings, and sustainability improvements by supporting daily packaging operations and implementing site‑level packaging changes under minimal supervision.
  • Lead supplier packaging activities at the site to ensure compliance with global standards, including managing Packaging Data Sheets within the Packaging Data Management System.
  • Strengthen material flow and cost control by managing the site’s returnable packaging program, maintaining accurate inventories, and performing fleet size and demand analyses.
  • Collaborate with Material Planning and cross‑functional teams to adjust forecasts, container flows, and packaging processes such as PFEP data, repack instructions, and maintenance cycles.
  • Partner directly with packaging suppliers to design, qualify, and implement new packaging solutions that improve safety, quality, and production performance.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to urgent packaging issues that impact safety, quality, environmental compliance, or production continuity.
  • Improve product quality by identifying packaging‑related defects, submitting supplier non‑conformance claims through CQMS, and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support team capability and operational excellence by informally guiding less experienced technicians, participating in improvement teams, and maintaining a strong focus on HSE, quality, and workplace organization.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Make sound, timely decisions that balance safety, quality, cost, and delivery to keep packaging operations and improving work moving forward.
  • Consistently drive results by executing packaging initiatives effectively, even when facing time constraints, competing priorities, or operational challenges.
  • Apply environmentally sustainable packaging principles to select materials and designs that reduce waste, support reuse or recycling, and minimize lifecycle environmental impact.
  • Integrate packaging solutions seamlessly into manufacturing and supply chain operations by understanding production processes, material flow, and distribution conditions.
  • Leverage strong packaging material and returnable packaging expertise to optimize protection, cost, and fleet performance while supporting long‑term waste and transportation reduction.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
  • A two-year University degree from an accredited program in Business, Engineering or a relevant field of study preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, generating reports and advanced level computer skills.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience in a related field.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities Include:

  • Identify opportunities to improve packaging efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize waste by supporting daily operations and implementing practical, site‑level packaging improvements.
  • Lead supplier packaging activities at the site, ensuring alignment with Cummins standards and maintaining accurate, up‑to‑date packaging data within the packaging system, including specification collection and approval.
  • Manage returnable packaging by ensuring proper form, fit, and function; maintaining accurate inventory; and aligning fleet sizes with actual demand.
  • Collaborate directly with direct and indirect suppliers to develop and implement new packaging solutions that enhance safety, protect parts, and support production requirements.
  • Respond promptly to packaging issues, particularly those with potential impacts to safety, quality, environmental compliance, or production continuity.
  • Support product quality improvements by identifying packaging‑related issues, issuing supplier non‑conformances, and contributing to corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
