Company Description
ALMA is one of Asia’s leading creative publications, offering a diverse range of literary and artistic content. Known for its blend of traditional and unconventional approaches, ALMA showcases original stories, fiction, art, opinions, and satire. The publication invites readers to explore creative ideas, providing a unique platform for intellectual engagement, creative exploration, and storytelling. ALMA values fresh perspectives and high-quality content that inspires and captivates its audience.
The Role
You will own Alma's paid and lifecycle marketing — the full funnel from first impression to paying subscriber. This is not a coordinator role. We need someone who can think strategically, build independently, and measure everything. You will work closely with editorial and design to ensure that every campaign feels considered and never generic.
Our target reader is discerning, internationally mobile, and allergic to mediocrity. Your job is to find them, speak to them honestly, and give them a reason to stay.
What You'll Own
CRM & Newsletter
Build and manage Alma's subscriber lifecycle from opt-in to paid subscription — welcome sequences, re-engagement flows, churn prevention
Own the email calendar and execute the subscriber newsletter end-to-end: segmentation, A/B testing, deliverability, and performance reporting
Develop and maintain audience segments (readers, writers, Writebeyond alumni, event attendees, lapsed subscribers) and ensure every communication is appropriately targeted
Set up and manage the CRM system; ensure clean data, proper tagging, and attribution across all touchpoints
Paid Media — Google
Plan and run Google Search, Display, and Discovery campaigns targeting acquisition of high-intent literary readers and subscription conversions
Own keyword strategy, bidding, Quality Scores, and landing page alignment
Run YouTube pre-roll campaigns for Alma video content and event promotion
Paid Media — Meta (Instagram & Facebook)
Build and manage Meta campaigns across awareness, consideration, and conversion objectives
Develop audience strategy: interest-based, lookalike, and retargeting
Work with the design and editorial team to brief and assess creative — understand what performs and why
Manage the Instagram growth strategy in tandem with organic content
SEO
Own on-page and technical SEO across almamagazines.com — site structure, metadata, schema, Core Web Vitals
Build a content SEO strategy in collaboration with editorial: identify high-value search opportunities aligned with Alma's voice and reader interests
Track and report on organic traffic, keyword rankings, and search-driven conversions
Analytics & Reporting
Set up and maintain attribution across all channels — GA4, Meta Pixel, Google Tag Manager
Build a regular reporting rhythm: weekly performance snapshots and monthly strategic reviews
Translate data into decisions, not just summaries
What We're Looking For
2–5 years of experience in digital marketing, with demonstrable expertise across at least three of the above channels
Track record of growing a subscription, membership, or premium digital product — ideally in media, publishing, or culture
International experience: you have worked across markets beyond your home country, or have run campaigns targeting diaspora audiences (South Asian diaspora experience is a genuine advantage)
Strong Google Ads and Meta Ads platform proficiency — you have managed meaningful budgets and can show the results
Working knowledge of SEO — both technical fundamentals and content strategy
Experience with a CRM platform (Mailchimp, Klaviyo, HubSpot, or similar) at a level beyond basic campaigns — you understand lifecycle logic
Comfort with analytics tools: GA4, Search Console, Meta Business Suite
Enough taste to brief a designer and enough rigour to read a data export — you sit comfortably in both worlds
Strong written English; an understanding of what makes literary or cultural content work online
The ability to operate with autonomy in a small, fast-moving team
Bonus:
Experience marketing to South Asian audiences internationally (UK, US, Gulf, Singapore)
Familiarity with Substack, Beehiiv, or similar newsletter platforms
Experience with affiliate or partnership-based subscriber growth
Background in or genuine passion for literature, writing, or independent publishing
What We Offer
Competitive salary commensurate with experience
Remote-first, with flexibility on hours across time zones
The opportunity to build the growth infrastructure of one of the most interesting independent publications being made right now
Access to Alma events, print editions, and the wider literary community we're building
A team that takes the work seriously and doesn't take itself too seriously
