About Creator Engine
Creator Engine is a post-production studio built for the creator economy. We work with international YouTube creators and clients across the US, Canada, and beyond - producing food travel vlogs, long-form interview content, documentary-style essays, and lifestyle content that performs consistently at scale. We produce on deadline, at standard, every time.
About the Role
The edit seat at Creator Engine is not a task seat. You receive organised footage and a creative brief, and you own what happens next - structure, pacing, the call on where the audience needs to feel something and where they need to move faster. The brief doesn't tell you how the first two minutes earn the next 40. That's your read.
You think like a creative partner, not an executor. That means you come in with a point of view, you flag concerns before they become problems, and you deliver on time without letting the deadline become a reason to let a weak structure through. If the cut isn't working, you say so. Early. And you can articulate exactly why - not just "something feels off" but a clear, specific read on what the structural problem is and what you'd do about it.
The content you'll work on spans food travel vlogs shot across international locations - personality-led, reaction-heavy, 35 to 45 minutes - to long-form interview-style talking heads running 60 to 90 minutes with chapter structure and cinematic cold opens. The audiences are global. The edit has to work without local context as a crutch. That requires a strong western edit sensibility: the pacing instincts, narrative architecture, and retention mechanics that define the best-performing long-form content on YouTube internationally.
The platform instinct is non-negotiable. You know why a food travel vlog holds a million viewers for 35 minutes and why another one drops at the eight-minute mark. You know how a 90-minute interview builds to a chapter payoff without losing the thread. You know what the opening of a long-form video has to do before a global audience decides to stay. You may have learned this from watching obsessively, or from years in the edit - either works. But it has to be there.
What You'll Own
- End-to-end editorial on long-form YouTube content: food travel vlogs, interview-style talking heads, lifestyle and documentary-format videos - from rough assembly to picture lock
- Structure and pacing decisions: not execution of a brief, but the creative call on what the cut needs
- Sound design and music selection within the edit
- Basic motion graphics and title cards in Premiere Pro; After Effects for anything that needs more
- Timeline ownership - delivering on deadline without compromising the edit standard
- Early flagging of concerns to the Creative Producer, before they reach the client
The Role is Not for You If
- You can execute a brief cleanly but switch off when the brief runs out
- You've never paid attention to why one YouTube video holds and another one doesn't - the mechanics of it, not just whether you liked watching it
- You need the Creative Producer to point out when something isn't working before you notice it yourself
- Deadlines make you cut corners on structure rather than flag the problem early
You'll Thrive Here If
- You watch YouTube the way a film editor watches films - with the edit in mind, not just the content
- You have a clear point of view on what makes long-form content hold on this platform, and you can explain it
- You flag problems early, articulate them clearly, and come with a proposed fix - not just the flag
- You work fast without dropping your standards
- You want to build editorial instinct on content that reaches real audiences at real scale
What You Bring
- 2+ years editing long-form YouTube content, with a portfolio that shows platform instinct - not just clean cuts
- Premiere Pro as your primary tool; working knowledge of After Effects for title cards and basic motion work
- A demonstrable understanding of YouTube retention mechanics, hook structure, and chapter payoff - from real edit experience, not from knowing the theory
- A strong western edit sensibility: familiarity with the pacing, structure, and narrative style of high-performing international YouTube content across food travel, interview, and documentary formats
- Strong communication: you can articulate your creative decisions clearly, defend a structural call, and flag concerns in a way that moves things forward rather than stalling them
- The ability to receive creative direction without losing your own read on the cut
Formal qualifications matter less than a portfolio that shows you understand why something works on YouTube.
