Company Description Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH), founded in 1926 by Dr. Sorabji P. Shroff, is one of North India’s largest tertiary eye care institutes, built on a century of trust and innovation. Guided by the belief that sight is a human right, SCEH’s board mandates that at least 50% of all surgeries are non-paying or highly subsidised, ensuring equitable care for all. Role Description The Counsellor is a full-time, on-site role based at Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital facility in Hisar. The individual will provide empathetic counseling to patients and families, helping them understand diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and rehabilitation pathways in clear, accessible language. Responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-treatment counseling sessions, offering emotional support, and addressing concerns related to vision loss, treatment adherence, and lifestyle adjustments. The Counsellor will collaborate closely with ophthalmologists, nursing staff, optometrists, and administrative teams to coordinate patient education, ensure informed consent, and promote continuity of care. The role also involves maintaining accurate counseling records, participating in health education initiatives, and contributing to community outreach and patient engagement activities.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills to support patients and families with empathy and clarity.
- Skills in patient education, health awareness, and the ability to explain medical information in simple, culturally sensitive terms.
- Emotional resilience, conflict resolution, and basic crisis intervention skills to handle distress, anxiety, and challenging conversations.
- Organizational, documentation, and time-management skills for maintaining records, managing appointments, and coordinating with clinical teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment and follow clinical protocols and ethical guidelines.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field; relevant certifications in counseling or mental health are an advantage.
