Job Description – Cost Estimation / Takeoff Engineer
Job Summary
The Cost Estimation / Takeoff Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, bid documents, and pricing analysis for construction projects. The role involves reviewing drawings, prepare cost estimates, tender preparation and drafting specifications, coordinating with project team, to ensure competitive and profitable project submissions. Skilled in preparing, formatting, organizing, and maintaining professional project documents with accuracy and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Quantity Takeoff & Estimation
- Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed estimates for various project stages.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs from drawings and accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment.
- Prepare bid summaries, comparison sheets, and pricing breakdowns.
- Analyze project scope and drawings.
- Ensure all estimates comply with project specifications and client requirements.
- Maintain estimating databases, unit rates, and historical cost records.
Tendering & Bid Preparation
- Prepare and submit of tender documents.
- Prepare contract terms, specifications, and project requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers, internal project teams, and clients during bid preparation.
- Support project managers in contract-related matters during project execution.
- Ensure all contract documents are accurate, complete, and properly filed.
- Document formatting and document control and creating standardized templates, managing revisions, maintaining formatting consistency, and ensuring compliance with organizational documentation procedures.
Software & Documentation
- Use estimation and takeoff software for quantity calculations and pricing.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, quotations, and tender submissions.
- Prepare professional reports and presentations for management review.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 1-2 years of experience in construction estimation or quantity takeoff.
- Experience in infrastructure, roadworks, utilities and buildings projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.

- Ability to work under tight tender deadlines
- Experience with cost databases and rate analysis
- Familiarity with CSI/MasterFormat divisions
