Conducts thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals.
· Diagnoses and treats a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections.
· Develops and implements individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions.
· Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, such as pharmaceuticals, laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings.
· Provides vaccinations, performs health screenings, and promotes preventive care measures within the correctional population.
· Performs basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting and injections.
Chronic Disease Management:
Monitors and manages chronic diseases prevalent among incarcerated individuals, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis C.
· Ensures proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness.
· Educates patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.
· Collaborates with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals, when necessary.
Emergency Medical Services:
· Responds to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions.
· Coordinates with emergency medical services or arranges for transfers to external medical facilities, when required.
Participates in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises to ensure efficient emergency response within the correctional setting
