About the Organization : The Akshaya Patra Foundation is one of the world’s largest not-for-profit organizations implementing the Government of India’s Mid-Day Meal Programme. With operations spanning across 16+ states and over 78 kitchens, the Foundation serves over 2.35 million mid-day meals and 1 million morning snacks every day to school children. About the Role We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Content Writer – Impact Communication to bring powerful, real-world stories to life. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in field environments, believes in ethical storytelling, and can translate grassroots impact into compelling narratives that inspire donors, partners, and communities. The candidate will work closely with programme, M&E, and creative teams to document and communicate the organisation’s impact across key themes such as nutrition, education, and empowerment.
1. Impact Story Collection & Field Engagement
- Travel to programme locations across India to document stories of children, teachers, kitchen staff, and community members.
- Collaborate with field teams to identify meaningful and compelling stories that reflect measurable impact.
- Capture diverse storytelling formats including interviews, quotes, testimonials, photo stories, and short-form videos.
- Independently shoot and record high-quality visual content to support written narratives.
- Maintain a well-organised repository of stories, photographs, videos, testimonials, and impact data for cross-platform usage.
2. Narrative Development & Content Creation
- Craft emotionally engaging, authentic, and ethically grounded stories based on lived experiences.
- Translate ground realities into impactful content for campaigns, annual reports, donor communications, newsletters, and media features.
- Collaborate with creative and digital teams to develop multimedia storytelling assets (videos, digital campaigns, case studies, etc.).
- Ensure consistency with brand voice, communication strategy, and key impact themes.
3. Impact Communication Strategy
- Support the development and execution of an integrated impact communication plan.
- Work closely with data and Monitoring & Evaluation teams to blend qualitative stories with quantitative evidence.
- Identify opportunities to showcase impact through reports, social media, public platforms, and donor engagement channels.
- Contribute to thematic campaigns that spotlight organisational reach, scale, and legacy.
4. Collaboration & Capacity Building
- Work cross-functionally to strengthen overall impact communication efforts.
- Develop storytelling templates and guidelines to enable field teams to gather quality stories.
- Liaise with external agencies, filmmakers, photographers, and creative partners as required.
Eligibility & Skills
- 3–4 years of experience in storytelling, field reporting, journalism, or impact communication (preferably within the non-profit or social sector).
- Excellent writing, interviewing, and narrative structuring skills.
- Basic proficiency in photography and short-form video recording.
- Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- High sensitivity to ethical storytelling and community representation.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel extensively to field locations across India.
