Role Overview
Sai Hospital is seeking an experienced and committed Consultant Physician to lead and strengthen the hospital’s Internal Medicine services. The selected physician will be responsible for the comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and management of adult patients across outpatient, inpatient, emergency and critical-care settings.
The role requires strong clinical judgement, leadership capability, effective communication and the ability to work closely with multidisciplinary clinical and administrative teams.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Lead the outpatient and inpatient management of patients with acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, establish diagnoses and prepare evidence-based treatment plans.
- Manage patients with multiple comorbidities and medically complex presentations.
- Provide timely specialist consultations and clinical opinions to other departments.
- Review admitted patients regularly and maintain continuity of care throughout hospitalization.
- Guide junior doctors, duty medical officers, nurses and allied healthcare professionals in clinical decision-making.
Critical Care and Emergency Medicine
- Oversee the medical management of patients admitted to the ICU and emergency department.
- Establish and monitor treatment protocols for critically ill medical patients.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, clinical deterioration and resuscitation situations.
- Coordinate with anaesthesiology, cardiology, surgery and other speciality departments whenever escalation of care is required.
- Ensure compliance with infection-control measures, medication-safety practices and critical-care standards.
- Participate in morbidity reviews, mortality reviews and clinical case discussions.
Outpatient and Inpatient Care
- Evaluate and treat patients presenting with common and complex internal-medicine conditions.
- Manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, respiratory disorders, cardiovascular risk factors, renal conditions and infectious diseases.
- Ensure appropriate investigation, documentation, follow-up and referral.
- Provide preventive-health advice, counselling and long-term disease-management plans.
- Communicate clearly with patients and family members regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options and expected outcomes.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Work closely with the hospital’s management, nursing team, laboratory, pharmacy and specialised clinical departments.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and coordinated discharge planning.
- Support the development of integrated clinical pathways for patients with multiple medical conditions.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, professional respect and patient-centred decision-making.
- Assist the hospital in strengthening its Internal Medicine and critical-care services.
Clinical Governance and Compliance
- Ensure that all medical practices comply with applicable regulatory requirements, ethical standards and hospital policies.
- Maintain accurate, complete and timely medical records.
- Follow approved protocols for prescribing, investigations, admissions, referrals and discharge.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality-improvement initiatives and patient-safety programmes.
- Support NABH-related quality standards, documentation practices and continuous-improvement activities.
- Report adverse events, medication errors and patient-safety concerns through the appropriate hospital mechanisms.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
Administrative and Leadership Duties
- Assist management in developing clinical protocols, departmental policies and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in medical staff meetings, quality committees and hospital-review meetings.
- Contribute to workforce planning, departmental development and service expansion.
- Support training, mentoring and professional development of medical and nursing personnel.
- Coordinate duty responsibilities and ensure adequate continuity of medical coverage.
- Represent the Internal Medicine department in discussions with hospital management and other clinical teams.
Candidate Requirements
- M.D. in General Medicine/Internal Medicine or DNB in General Medicine/Internal Medicine.
- Valid registration with the National Medical Commission or the applicable State Medical Council.
- Strong experience in outpatient and inpatient Internal Medicine.
- Competence in handling medical emergencies and critically ill patients.
- Sound knowledge of current clinical guidelines and evidence-based medical practice.
- Strong leadership, communication and interdisciplinary coordination skills.
- Commitment to ethical practice, patient safety and compassionate care.
- Experience in ICU management, hospital quality systems or NABH-accredited healthcare environments will be an added advantage.
