Job Summary:
We are looking for a Computer Vision Engineer to support the development of computer vision and machine learning solutions for UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) applications. The role focuses on implementing, testing, and improving CV algorithms for image and video data captured from drones, under the guidance of senior engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply classical computer vision techniques (feature extraction, homography, optical flow, camera calibration, epipolar geometry) alongside deep learning methods, selecting the right tool for each task.
- Build and maintain systems for multi-object tracking integrated with detection and re-identification pipelines.
- Fine-tune deep learning models using techniques such as knowledge distillation and PEFT, work with libraries such as Transformers, and design architectures based on CNNs and Vision Transformers (ViTs).
- Develop 3D scene understanding capabilities, including structure-from-motion (SfM), visual odometry, and occupancy estimation from monocular, stereo, or depth sensor inputs.
- Implement and maintain image-based 3D reconstruction pipelines for mapping and scene modelling from UAV imagery.
- Integrate perception outputs (detection, segmentation, depth) into downstream systems such as path planning, obstacle avoidance, or geo-referencing modules.
- Own model lifecycle from dataset curation, annotation strategy, and augmentation through training, ablation studies, and production deployment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with firmware, robotics, and software teams to integrate CV systems into real drone hardware and flight stacks.
Required Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with classical vision algorithms: feature detectors/descriptors (SIFT, ORB, AKAZE), optical flow (Farnebäck, Lucas-Kanade), and geometric transformations (homography, essential/fundamental matrices).
- Proven experience building detection, tracking, and segmentation systems using modern architectures (YOLO variants, DETR, SAM, Mask R-CNN) and integrating them into production-grade pipelines.
- Solid understanding of multi-view geometry: camera models, stereo rectification, disparity estimation, triangulation, and bundle adjustment.
- Experience with 3D data processing using libraries such as Open3D, PCL, or similar — including point cloud registration (ICP), filtering, segmentation, and meshing.
- Familiarity with SfM and visual-inertial odometry frameworks (e.g., COLMAP, OpenMVG, ORB-SLAM, VINS-Mono) for UAV localisation and mapping.
- Experience with model optimisation techniques: quantisation, pruning, TensorRT, ONNX export, and profiling for edge deployment.
- Understanding of sensor fusion concepts — combining camera, IMU, GPS, and LiDAR data for robust perception.
- Comfortable working with geo-referenced imagery, coordinate frame transforms, and mapping tools relevant to drone applications (e.g., GeoTIFF, GDAL, WGS84/UTM).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Robotics, or a related field
- At least one year of experience
- Understanding of computer vision and image processing concepts
- Familiarity with linear algebra fundamentals
- Participation in hackathons or robotics competitions
- Strong problem-solving attitude and willingness to learn
