Job Summary:

The VMC Programmer is responsible for programming, setting, and optimizing Vertical Machining Center (VMC) operations to manufacture precision components as per drawing specifications. This role ensures high productivity, accuracy, quality, and adherence to safety and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Programming & Machining

• Develop, edit, and optimize VMC programs using G-code / M-code.
• Create programs using CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, NX, SolidCAM, Fusion 360, etc.) as applicable.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining strategies.
• Perform dry runs and prove-out programs before production release.
• Optimize cycle times while maintaining quality and tool life.

Machine Setup & Operation

• Set up VMC machines including work offsets, tool offsets, and datum setting.
• Assist operators during first-off approval and ensure production readiness.
• Handle multi-axis machining operations where applicable.
• Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot machining issues.

Quality & Documentation

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
• Ensure components meet quality standards and tolerance requirements.
• Support inspection activities using measuring instruments (Vernier, Micrometer, CMM basics).
• Maintain machining documentation, tool lists, and process sheets.

Process Improvement & Support

• Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement.
• Coordinate with design, quality, and production teams.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Lean, TPM).

Safety & Compliance

• Follow company safety procedures and machining best practices.
• Ensure proper machine and tool handling to prevent breakdowns and accidents.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.

Experience

• 2–6 years of experience as a VMC Programmer in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience with Fanuc / Siemens / Haas / Mitsubishi controls preferred.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of VMC programming and machining processes.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM programming.
• Understanding of cutting tools, materials, and machining parameters.
• Basic maintenance and troubleshooting knowledge.

Soft Skills

• Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
• Attention to detail and quality orientation.
• Ability to work under production pressure.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
