Job Description for a Compliance Officer

Summary
This position is responsible for ensuring that WMG’s adherence to SEBI, NSE, BSE, MCX and Depositories Regulations and other applicable laws governing stockbroking operations. This role acts as the first line of defence against regulatory breaches, ensuring investor protection, market integrity, and smooth functioning of internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with SEBI (Stock Brokers) Regulations, SEBI (PMLA) guidelines, and exchange (NSE/BSE/MCX) and Depositories circulars.
Monitor and implement changes in regulatory requirements; update internal policies accordingly.
- Act as the designated Compliance Officer as required under SEBI regulations, liaising directly with SEBI/exchanges.
- File periodic returns, reports, and disclosures with SEBI, exchanges, and depositories within stipulated timelines.
- Conduct and co-ordinate compliance audits/inspections and coordinate statutory, concurrent, and exchange-mandated audits.
- Review and strengthen SOPs, risk management policies, and internal control systems.
- Ensure segregation of client funds/securities and monitor for any misuse.
- Oversee client onboarding processes to ensure KYC norms (CKYC/KRA) are properly followed.
- Implement and monitor the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policy and PMLA reporting obligations (STR/CTR filings with FIU-IND).
- Maintain compliance calendar tracking all regulatory filings and deadlines.
- Handle investor grievances and ensure timely redressal through SCORES and exchange platforms.
Key Requirements
Qualifications
Graduate/Postgraduate in Law, Finance, Commerce or Secreterial
NISM certifications - NISM Series III A & VII
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in compliance, preferably within a broking firm, depository participant, or capital markets entity.
- Prior interaction with SEBI/exchanges/audits is highly desirable.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of SEBI regulations, exchange bye-laws, and PMLA/KYC norms.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication for regulatory correspondence.
- Proficiency in back-office/trading software and MS Office (especially Excel).
- Ability to work independently given the lean team structure typical of small broking firms
- High integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Assertiveness to enforce compliance even under business pressure.
