About Acres of ice
Acres of Ice is building the technology that keeps mountain villages alive. Founded in 2023, we now operate across 12 villages in Ladakh and serve 30+ farmers in Kashmir, have grown to a 20-person team.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a Communications Specialist to join our core team. This is not a typical content job. You'll embed with communities that are adapting to climate change in real time, document stories that matter, and shape how the world understands what's at stake in the mountains.
You'll be based in Srinagar, Kashmir in summer and Shey, Ladakh in winter, with regular field visits to remote villages and you'll bring those stories back to funders, media, and a global audience.
What You'll Do
- Write and produce content for social media, newsletters, and our website stories that show funders and supporters exactly what's at stake and what's working
- Document village stories, farmer testimonials, and community impact through photography, video, and written narrative during field visits
- Translate complex innovations (AI, wireless automation, sensor networks) into clear, compelling stories for non-technical audiences
- Build and manage Acres of Ice's digital presence across platforms
- Manage media relationships and respond to inbound press interest as our profile grows internationally
- Work closely with every part of the team field engineers, researchers, operations, and leadership — to understand both office and on-ground work, and translate that into timely, accurate social media updates and communications
- Coordinate with our technical and field teams to stay close to what's actually happening on the ground
What You'll Bring
- Photography and/or videography skills
- Strong English writing and storytelling skills, with a portfolio that shows range (articles, campaigns, social media, reports — any combination)
- Ability to take complex, technical, or unfamiliar material and make it accessible and compelling
- Comfort with digital tools for communication and design (social platforms, newsletters, Canva or equivalent)
- Genuine interest in climate adaptation, mountain communities, or social impact
- Strong team player — you'll be embedded across field and office functions, and your output depends on building genuine relationships with every part of the team
- Collaborative working style and cultural sensitivity; you'll be working closely with rural communities and government partners
- Willingness to do field work in remote, high-altitude environments with limited connectivity
Good to have:
- Physical fitness for high-altitude trekking (we'll help you acclimatize)
- Experience with grant writing or fundraising communications
- Background in climate tech, development, or NGO sectors
- Familiarity with Adobe suite
Candidates from Kashmir or Ladakh will be preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- In-hand salary: ₹20,000/month (CTC ₹4.8 lakhs/year), plus accommodation

- Direct access to senior leadership and real ownership of your work from day one
- Opportunity to grow with an organization at an inflection point
