Kitchen Steward

This Kitchen Steward role at Commonplace Coffee has the essential function of assuring that all of the delicious food made in our Kitchen is appropriately packed and prepared for delivery. This position creates a “reset” for the space and is essential to keeping the logistics of a wholesale bakery flowing smoothly.

This position is expected to range from 28-32 hours per week. This position is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Personal transportation is required to get to and from the work location. 

Essential Functions

• Maintain high quality and consistent product standards.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Follow order forms and SOPs to pack baked goods in bins, bags, coolers, and more.
• Attention to detail and consideration of product composition to ensure all delivered products meet our quality standards (no one likes a squished muffin!)
• Time management skills.
• Understanding of ServSafe standards for cleaning and sanitation tasks.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions.
• Support a positive work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by kitchen manager and supervisors.
• Communicate with team members and management to solve problems.

Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail and respect for cleanliness and sanitation.
• High integrity and personal responsibility.
• Openness to constructive criticism and constantly striving to improve.
• Ability to multi-task with ease and problem solve under challenging conditions.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.

Physical Demands

• Stand and walk – must be able to stand for 4-8 hour shifts and move about the kitchen.
• Perform repetitive tasks – must be able to complete repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and forearms.
• Taste and smell – must be able to detect and perceive smells
• Oral communication – must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with customers and team members.
• Carry weight, lift – must be able to lift up to 5-10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

• In-person: Work is performed at the Commonplace Coffee bakery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
• The work environment can be noisy, hot, or cold.
• This job involves working both independently at times and closely with other individuals in an environment with limited space.

Additional Details

• Hourly; 28-32 hours expected per week.
• Evening shifts.
• This position reports to the Kitchen Manager.
