Job OverviewA Commis Chef is an entry-level position in the kitchen brigade responsible for assisting senior chefs in food preparation, maintaining kitchen hygiene, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build a career in the culinary field.
Key Duties & Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes as per standard recipes
- Support the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the workstation at all times
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards (HACCP guidelines)
- Ensure proper storage and handling of ingredients and food items
- Help in receiving and checking kitchen supplies and stock
- Minimize wastage and control portion sizes
- Adhere to kitchen SOPs and presentation standards
- Assist in mise en place for service
- Work efficiently during busy service hours while maintaining quality
Skills & Competencies- Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen equipment
- Willingness to learn and take instructions
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and hygiene standards
- Time management and discipline
Experience Requirements- 0–2 years of experience in a professional kitchen (hotel, restaurant, café, cloud kitchen, etc.)
- Freshers with relevant culinary training can also be considered
Education & Qualifications- Diploma or Degree in Hotel Management, Culinary Arts, or a related field
- Certification in Food Safety/Hygiene (preferred but not mandatory)
