Company Description
Fractional Edge provides businesses with an innovative way to access senior level executive leadership. By connecting companies with seasoned CXOs and senior leaders, Fractional Edge empowers organizations to tackle critical challenges and achieve strategic growth efficiently. As a trusted partner, Fractional Edge helps businesses gain a competitive advantage by delivering the right talent at the right time.
Our Client
Our client is one of India's leading auto component manufacturers, specialising in high-precision powertrain solutions across transmission gears and shafts, driveline components, engine gears, and power take-off components. The company operates four plants in the NCR manufacturing belt, each serving a distinct customer base across passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and off-highway segments.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site opportunity for a Commercial Controller based in the Greater Delhi Area. Our client's financial accounting is well-managed and functioning effectively. What the business needs is a commercially sharp controller — someone who sits across all the plants and brings rigour to the commercial and operational dimensions of the business: cost forecasting, variance analysis, early warning identification, and process compliance
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Control Across Plants
- Maintain a live, integrated view of commercial performance across all four plants — covering costs, margins, customer contract adherence, and supplier pricing compliance
- Ensure that costs across each plant remain within defined target ranges — identifying deviations early, understanding their root cause, and driving accountability for corrective action
Forecasting & Early Warning
- Build and maintain robust cost and margin forecasting models across all four plants — giving management reliable forward visibility rather than lagging actuals
- Identify early warning signals — cost trends, margin erosion, supplier price creep, production inefficiencies, and contract risks — before they surface as problems in the P&L
Cost Management & Variance Analysis
- Own the cost control framework across all four plants — setting cost targets per product line and plant, tracking actuals against targets, and driving accountability for variances
- Conduct structured variance analysis — distinguishing between volume, mix, efficiency, and price variances, and ensuring each is owned and actioned by the right function
- Work closely with plant operations teams to understand the operational drivers of cost — getting to the shopfloor to verify assumptions and challenge explanations
SAP & Systems-Driven Control
- Leverage SAP as the primary tool for commercial control — extracting, interpreting, and acting on data across cost centres, purchase orders, production orders, and customer billing
- Ensure SAP data integrity across all four plants — working with operations and finance teams to ensure transactions are recorded correctly and in a timely manner
- Build SAP-based reporting and control frameworks that give the President – Commercial and MD real-time visibility of commercial performance without manual intervention
Process Compliance & Governance
- Ensure that commercial and operational processes are being followed consistently across all four plants — including procurement processes, customer billing, job work agreements, and material movement
- Build a compliance rhythm across plants — regular process audits, structured reviews, and clear escalation paths for non-compliance
Management Reporting & Decision Support
- Prepare and present clear, concise commercial control reports for senior management — translating complex cost and operational data into actionable insights
- Support the President – Commercial and MD with data, analysis, and scenario modelling for key commercial decisions — pricing, contract renegotiation, capex, and make-vs-buy
Qualifications
- 12–18 years of experience in commercial control, cost management, or management accounting within a manufacturing environment — auto components or precision engineering strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience in cost forecasting, variance analysis, and early warning identification — not just financial reporting or accounting
- Strong SAP proficiency is essential — must have worked extensively with SAP in a manufacturing environment, including cost centre accounting, production orders, and procurement modules
- Experience working across multiple plants or business units simultaneously, with the ability to maintain a cross-plant view without losing plant-level detail
- Prior exposure to third-party commercial dealings — supplier contracts, job work arrangements, or customer pricing — is an advantage
- Cost Accountant (CMA / ICWA) — strongly preferred; a background in cost accounting is the most direct fit for the demands of this role
- Engineer + MBA (Finance) — equally considered for candidates who have operated in a similar commercial control environment in manufacturing
