Job Description: Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)
Reports To: Director of Special Services / Licensed Physical Therapist
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) supports the delivery of physical therapy services to
students under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA assists in
implementing individualized therapy plans to help students improve mobility, physical function,
and access to the educational environment, in accordance with students’ Individualized
Education Programs (IEPs).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Implement physical therapy interventions as directed by the supervising Physical
Therapist.
● Assist in carrying out individualized treatment plans for students with physical disabilities
or developmental delays.
● Document student progress, therapy sessions, and outcomes in accordance with district
and state guidelines.
● Monitor student responses to therapy and report progress or concerns to the supervising
Physical Therapist.
● Support students with positioning, mobility, transfers, and use of adaptive equipment.
● Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other service providers to support
student success.
● Provide input for IEP development and attend meetings as requested.
● Maintain therapy equipment and ensure a safe and clean working environment.
● Follow all district policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements (FERPA/HIPAA
as applicable).
● Travel between school sites within the district as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Knowledge of physical therapy practices, techniques, and equipment.
● Ability to work effectively with children with a variety of physical and developmental
needs.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Ability to follow detailed instructions and work under supervision.
● Organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate documentation.
● Ability to lift, move, and assist students with physical needs safely.

Minimum Qualifications
● Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
● Current Oklahoma licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
● CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
● Experience working with children or in a school setting is preferred.
Working Conditions
● Work is performed in school settings, including classrooms, therapy rooms, and
gymnasiums.
● Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 pounds with assistance as
needed).
● May involve exposure to students with various physical and behavioral needs.
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policies and
administrative guidelines.
Terms of Employment
Salary and work year to be established by the Collinsville Board of Education in accordance
with support staff salary schedules and applicable state regulations.
