Job Description

Social Media Producer will be responsible for producing and publishing a range of digital content, including text, video, social cards and audio formats for BBC News Tamil's Website, social platforms and podcasts to the highest professional standards. You will also be required to exercise editorial judgment of the highest standards in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

• Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium to the highest professional standards.
  
• Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism in Video and text, social card formats.
  
• To undertake pre- and post-production and studio work, live and pre-recorded. Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
  
• To liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
  
• To tailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
  
• To prioritise and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources available.
  
• To produce engaging packages through a range of production skills.
  
• Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
  
• At all times to carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.
  
  

Requirements

Knowledge, skills, training and experience:

• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years’ experience in social media handling, with a good knowledge of current affairs and a sound judgement of news.
  
• You will have an excellent command over written and spoken Tamil, and a good understanding of English.
  
• You will be able to translate from English to Tamil swiftly and accurately, to produce error-free content that is relevant to BBC Tamil audiences.
  
• You will have experience of production techniques for Digital, Social and Video platforms.
  
• You will have experience of managing social media channels to build engagement and increase referrals back to the website.
  
• You will have the ability to produce original stories from the desk and also doing ground reports from the field.
  
• You will have to monitor and analyze the trends and produce content for social platforms and website.
  
• You will have the ability to work in a high pressure news environment, delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest standards
