Backend Software Engineer

Cognizant is a Large IT Consulting Firm that leverages modern technologies to improve a variety of business operations. As our team continues to grow, we are currently looking to hire additional Teams Leads. This role is On Site, and all candidates must reside in the United States. Job Summary: We're looking for a strong problem solver and systems thinker to help us evaluate and improve machine learning models at scale. You'll play a critical role in building the core logic and infrastructure that enables our team to track, measure, and improve model performance across diverse domains. You'll work closely with researchers, data engineers, and MLOps to: Design and implement automated evaluation pipelines Build data preparation and labeling systems Orchestrate complex workflows for model retraining and experimentation Deep dive into Python and C++ systems that support high-throughput data and model processing This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in complex systems, love writing clean and reliable code, and care deeply about measurement and reproducibility in ML. Responsibilities Design and implement scalable systems to evaluate ML models across a range of metrics (accuracy, F1, AUC, etc.) Build Python-based tools and services to automate model validation, performance tracking, and report generation Develop orchestration logic for data and model pipelines, including dependency resolution, scheduling, and failure recovery Maintain and extend high-performance components in C++ (e.g., data parsers, inference wrappers, metric calculators) Collaborate with research teams to translate experiments into production pipelines Ensure traceability and versioning across datasets, labels, model runs, and evaluation results Participate in system design discussions to ensure evaluation and retraining pipelines scale as we grow
