ABOUT WERYWIN DEFENCE
Werywin Defence Private Limited is a Make in India defence manufacturing company committed to building world-class indigenous capabilities in precision defence components and systems. Aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat framework, Werywin operates at the intersection of advanced manufacturing technology and national security imperatives, delivering critical hardware to India's defence ecosystem.
We are expanding our CNC precision machining division and are seeking a seasoned professional who combines strong shop-floor leadership with deep CAM programming expertise to drive quality, efficiency, and throughput in a high-stakes manufacturing environment.
ROLE OVERVIEW
This is a dual-responsibility leadership role combining production management of the CNC shop floor with hands-on, expert-level CAM programming. The incumbent will be the principal technical authority for all CNC machining operations — simultaneously responsible for planning and scheduling machine utilisation, managing a team of operators, ensuring on-time delivery to drawing specifications, and independently programming complex, high-precision defence components using SolidCAM and/or Mastercam. The role demands an individual who is equally comfortable holding a conversation about GD&T tolerances, fixture philosophy, and tooling strategy as they are conducting a team briefing on production targets or presenting OEE data to senior leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. CNC Shop Floor Management & Leadership
● Plan, schedule, and assign machining jobs across CNC turning centres, VMCs, HMCs, and multi-axis machines to maximise Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and on-time delivery.
● Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of CNC operators, setter-operators, and QC inspectors; establish shift responsibilities and accountability structures.
● Conduct daily production briefings, track plan vs. actual output, and implement corrective actions for shortfalls in real time.
● Own machine utilisation metrics; identify bottlenecks and implement capacity improvement plans.
● Drive a zero-defect culture through robust first-article inspection (FAI), in-process inspection, and final inspection protocols.
● Coordinate with procurement for cutting tools, inserts, coolants, and consumables to maintain uninterrupted production.
● Ensure strict 5S, housekeeping, and safety standards on the shop floor; conduct toolbox talks and safety audits.
● Interface with design, quality assurance, and project management teams to clarify engineering intent and resolve production issues.
B. CAM Programming – High-Precision Complex Parts
● Independently develop, simulate, verify, and release NC programs for complex, tight-tolerance defence components using SolidCAM and/or Mastercam.
● Programme multi-axis (3-, 4-, and 5-axis) VMC/HMC, turn mill centres simultaneous toolpaths for intricate geometries including undercuts, deep pockets, thin-walled structures, and compound contours.
● Select optimal tooling strategies (roughing, semi-finishing, finishing, high-speed machining, trochoidal milling) and cutting parameters to balance cycle time, surface finish, and tool life.
● Design, specify, and validate machining fixtures and work-holding solutions; coordinate with toolroom for fabrication.
● Perform virtual machine simulation (machine simulation / collision check) within CAM environment prior to posting programs.
● Manage and maintain a structured NC program library with version control and revision history.
● Continuously review and improve existing programs to reduce cycle times without compromising dimensional accuracy or surface integrity.
C. Tooling Strategy & Process Engineering
● Define tooling strategies for new components during APQP / process planning phase; prepare routing cards, operation sheets, and setup sheets.
● Evaluate and qualify new cutting tools, inserts, and toolholders; maintain standardised tooling catalogues and preferred vendor lists.
● Conduct structured time studies (Elemental Time Study / MTM) to establish standard times; feed data into production planning and cost estimation.
● Prepare and present DFM (Design for Manufacturability) feedback to the design team for new products.
● Implement tool life management and predictive tooling replacement to prevent unplanned downtime.
D. Continuous Improvement & Quality
● Lead cycle-time reduction initiatives using SMED, Kaizen, and lean manufacturing methodologies.
● Use SPC (Statistical Process Control) tools to monitor critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics and drive Cpk improvements.
● Investigate and resolve non-conformances (NCRs) using 8D / root-cause analysis; implement robust corrective and preventive actions.
● Actively participate in AS9100 / NADCAP / ISO 9001 quality audits and process reviews.
● Maintain and improve OEE, MTBF, scrap rate, and rework rate KPIs; present data-driven performance reviews monthly.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
● B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
● 8–15 years of progressive experience in CNC precision machining, with at least 4 years in a supervisory or management role overseeing a multi-machine CNC shop floor.
● Demonstrable expertise in SolidCAM and/or Mastercam — ability to programme complex parts from scratch without supervision is mandatory.
● Hands-on experience with CNC Turning Centres, VMCs, and ideally 4/5-axis machining centres from major OEMs (DN Solutions, Haas, Hyundai, or equivalent).
● Deep understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5 / ISO), surface finish parameters (Ra, Rz), and metrology practices (CMM, height gauges, surface plates).
● Experience programming and/or operating machines with FANUC, Siemens, or Heidenhain CNC controllers.
● Proven track record of conducting time studies and driving measurable cycle-time and throughput improvements.
● Experience in fixture design for machining — knowledge of datum philosophy, clamping forces, and jig/fixture standards.
Highly Preferable
● Prior experience in defence, aerospace, or other highly regulated precision manufacturing environments.
● Working knowledge of ERP / MES systems for production scheduling and job tracking.
● Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Green Belt or above), or equivalent.
● Exposure to AS9100 Rev D or NADCAP audit environments.
● Experience with SolidWorks or CATIA for reading and manipulating 3D models (.SLDPRT, .x_t, .STEP).
