About the role
We're looking for someone to design the clinical protocol that sits at the centre of Sugar360, the one that decides what happens to a patient from the day they enrol, inside the clinic and between visits. Right now that protocol has to be built. You'd be the person building it.
This is research-heavy and systems-facing rather than patient-facing. The job is to take the best available clinical, nutritional and behavioural evidence and turn it into something documented and repeatable, so that any qualified doctor at any Sugar360 clinic delivers the same standard of care. Your work is reviewed by a senior consultant diabetologist with four decades of practice.
Two things make this worth your time beyond the work itself. First, you get access to a clinical dataset built over fourteen years covering more than 5,000 diabetes patients, which has never been analysed or published. Almost no published Indian diabetes data comes from Tier 2, out-of-pocket practice, which is where most of the burden actually sits. Second, you get to see your work used. Most research sits in a journal. This gets followed in a clinic the week after you write it.
What you'll do
Design the master care protocol and the full patient pathway, including risk stratification, medical nutrition therapy anchored to Indian clinical and nutritional guidance, and routine psychosocial screening
Build the patient engagement side, the nudges, prompts, goal-setting and coaching contact, grounded in real behaviour change frameworks rather than put together ad hoc, with retention as the measured outcome
Turn the protocol into something transferable, deciding what must never vary between clinics and what can be adapted locally, and keeping a version-controlled clinical rulebook
Translate the clinical protocol into system logic, the thresholds, triggers, alerts and escalation rules, working alongside the tech team as their clinical counterpart
Write the scope-of-practice framework for health coaches, covering what they may advise, must not advise, and must escalate, plus the coaching playbook, training curriculum, and how coaching quality gets audited
Keep track of national and international guidelines and new therapies, assessed for whether they're actually affordable in an out-of-pocket market, and build the publication pipeline from our clinical data
What we're looking for
A PhD scholar, or a Master's degree in clinical research, public health, clinical nutrition, epidemiology, life sciences or an allied clinical discipline
MSc Clinical Research and MPH students are welcome, including as a dissertation or practicum placement. We'll report to your university supervisor and sign your institution's placement agreement
A medical or allied health qualification with a genuine research orientation also works
Able to read, appraise and synthesise peer-reviewed clinical literature, and to tell strong evidence from weak
Strong written English, since most of this role is producing precise, structured documents someone else has to execute
Able to work independently on questions that don't have settled answers yet
Nice to have: published or presented academic work, familiarity with diabetes guidelines, exposure to implementation science or behaviour change frameworks, experience in digital health, and comfort with basic data analysis
