Position Description

Reporting to the Senior Grants Manager, the temporary Grants Manager will be responsible for the management of CLUA’s grants and contracts throughout the award life cycle, which includes both pre-and post-award processes, collaborating closely with colleagues in the Programs, Operations, and Accounting departments to provide effective oversight of CLUA’s grants. In partnership with programs teams, the Grants Manager will conduct compliance and due diligence reviews of grant and contract files and supporting documentation. In addition, they will collaborate with colleagues across CLUA to provide grantmaking support and ensure alignment with grantmaking policies and procedures. The work is detail-oriented and requires excellent communication, relationship, and project management skills.


Location

The Grants Manager is a temporary, full time position, through January 31, 2026. The ideal candidate will be based in a timezone between UTC -8 and UTC -3, inclusive. The position will require working remotely with a flexible work schedule that may include early and late calls and activities to support colleagues in multiple time zones in the Americas, Europe and Indonesia.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The temporary Grants Manager will primarily:

  • Review grants and contracts throughout the award lifecycle, including grant and contract proposals, reports, payments, and modifications for completion and accuracy. Conduct appropriate due diligence for assigned program areas, including ensuring compliance with CLUA policies and adherence to applicable law (including geographies in Central and South America, Indonesia, and others).
  • Work closely with the Senior Grants Manager, the rest of the Grants and Contracts team , and Programs staff to respond to and resolve compliance issues during the grant lifecycle, ensuring reviews and processes are conducted in a timely manner, and elevate grant reviews to the Senior Grants Manager, as needed.
  • Pre-Award Processes: Review grant proposals, including grant budgets, financial statements, and supplemental documents, and conduct and document appropriate due diligence; Support the team in reviewing grant agreements and other grant-related documents when necessary; Review grant payment and report schedules, and any associated contingencies; Support intake of proposals and organizational documents when required.
  • Post-Award Processes: Monitor and review grant reports for compliance or other considerations, and route for appropriate approvals; Monitor and review grant and contract modifications and route for appropriate approvals. Support intake of modification applications when required; Support processing of grant and contract payments when required; Work to mitigate overdue reporting and ensure grants are closed within a timely manner; Support intake and follow up of report submissions.
  • Support and provide backup to others on the team during heavy workloads and take on other grants management duties/tasks as needed.


Preferred Experience & Competencies

Applicants will ideally have many of the following competencies and some of the following experience:

  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience, including experience within a grants management function at an international grantmaking organization
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills
  • Strong administrative, organizational, time, and workflow management skills
  • Experience writing and reviewing complex documents (e.g., grant proposals and agreements)
  • Experience reviewing grant materials with a compliance lens; knowledge of general US lobbying rules related to grantmaking
  • Experience managing and implementing projects and/or policies
  • Ability to review and analyze organizational budgets and financials
  • Experience working within databases or relational management systems and the ability to quickly acquire proficiency in database software (Fluxx experience is a plus)
  • An orientation toward self-starting, proactive anticipation of team needs, and creative problem-solving
  • Flexibility, adaptability, curiosity, integrity
