About the role

Head of R&D will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's long-term technology strategy by leading the research and development of cutting-edge battery cell technologies. This role involves guiding the R&D team to develop innovative solutions focused on energy density, charge cycles, safety, performance, and sustainability, while ensuring the successful commercialization of new technologies. The Head of R&D will also collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and academic institutions to push the boundaries of battery technology, maintaining the company's competitive edge in a rapidly evolving industry. Key Responsibilities: R&D Strategy & Leadership: - Lead the development and execution of the R&D strategy for next-generation battery technologies, ensuring alignment with the company's overall goals. - Establish clear R&D objectives, priorities, and timelines, ensuring effective project execution and measurable outcomes. - Provide technical direction and leadership on advanced battery chemistries, materials, manufacturing processes, and product designs. Technology Development & Innovation: - Spearhead the development of next-gen battery technologies, focusing on improvements in lithium-ion, solid-state, and other emerging chemistries for enhanced performance, safety, and sustainability. - Oversee the design and development of new battery cell architectures, materials, and manufacturing processes to improve energy density, cycle life, charge times, and overall efficiency. - Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to transition new technologies from R&D to commercial-scale production. - Stay at the forefront of advancements in energy storage, including novel materials, battery designs, and manufacturing innovations. Collaboration & External Partnerships: - Build and maintain strategic relationships with universities, research institutions, and industry partners to drive joint research initiatives and tap into external expertise. - Engage with industry leaders, suppliers, and stakeholders to accelerate the development and commercialization of groundbreaking battery technologies. - Represent the company at industry conferences, academic forums, and technical seminars, showcasing the company's leadership and innovation in battery technology. Project Management & Execution: - Oversee the entire R&D project lifecycle, from concept through prototype development and pilot testing, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. - Apply project management methodologies and tools to track the progress, performance, and outcomes of R&D projects. - Ensure effective risk and technical challenge management within the R&D team, proposing and implementing solutions to overcome obstacles. Commercialization & Scaling: - Work closely with product management and manufacturing teams to ensure R&D innovations are aligned with market needs and scalable for production. - Collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams to optimize R&D processes for scalability, cost-effectiveness, and smooth integration into existing workflows. - Lead the technology transfer process from R&D to production, ensuring successful commercialization of new technologies. Quality & Safety Standards: - Ensure R&D efforts comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements, including safety, environmental sustainability, and performance benchmarks. - Integrate quality assurance and safety protocols throughout the R&D process to meet or exceed product safety standards. - Implement robust testing, validation, and prototyping procedures to ensure new battery products are safe, reliable, and production-ready. Budget & Resource Management: - Manage the R&D budget, allocating resources effectively to high-priority projects and ensuring cost-efficient execution of initiatives. - Monitor and optimize the use of resources, including human capital, laboratory equipment, and materials. - Identify funding or grant opportunities to support R&D activities, especially in emerging or high-risk technology areas.
