Job details:
We are seeking a self-motivated, hands-on technical professional to join as a Client Engineer, stationed at a client data centre. Using strong hardware knowledge, the successful candidate will respond to maintenance calls promptly and efficiently to troubleshoot, analyse, and diagnose HPE, Dell, and IBM/Lenovo enterprise servers in a critical, production environment.
This is a practical, hands-on role. The engineer is expected to personally diagnose and physically resolve hardware failures, not simply monitor servers and log warranty calls with the OEM. On-site duty is typically staffed with one to two engineers per location. The role offers growth in planning, managing, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain client enterprise servers (HPE / Dell / IBM / Lenovo).
- Identify, analyse, and physically repair hardware failures independently, with minimal instruction.
- Carry out component-level replacement, including RAID, hard disk, memory, CPU, backplane, system board, and remote access cards.
- Respond to maintenance calls within the contracted SLA (immediate when on-site; typically 2–4 hours on-site response depending on the contract).
- Participate in rotating weekly standby coverage, attending on-site when activated.
- Maintain and order spare parts as needed; obtain approval before purchasing any new tools.
- Observe the DOs and DON'Ts of the customer's production environment at all times.
Requirements
Experience & Technical Skills
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on hardware breakfix experience across most major server brands.
- Able to independently identify and fix hardware issues with minimal instruction. Candidates whose experience is limited to server monitoring, operations, or logging OEM warranty calls (without hands-on breakfix) will not be considered.
- Hands-on replacement experience with:
- RAID, hard disk, memory, CPU, backplane, system board, and other internal server components.
- Remote access cards.
- IBM Blade Center, HPE BL/DL/ML series, Dell PowerEdge series.
- Hands-on experience across HPE, Dell, and Lenovo/IBM hardware.
- CompTIA A+ and/or Server+ certification an advantage.
- Own personal hand tools expected (standard for experienced engineers).
Attributes
- Positive attitude, with strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Self-starter, able to work independently without supervision and within a team.
- Professional demeanour, able to build effective working relationships with end users and stakeholders.
- Versatile, service-oriented mindset and a good team player.
- Strong communication skills.
- Able to work under pressure and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Availability & Location
- Comfortable with rotating shifts covering 10:00–22:00, working 10-hour days, 4 days on / 3 days off including weekends.
- Available for rotating weekly standby, with overtime claimable when called in.
- Able to arrange own commute to site (public transport preferred; approved private cab only when necessary). Occasional reimbursed travel to other data centres when operationally required.
