The City of Virginia Beach Public Works department is currently hiring a Motor Equipment Operator II to perform a variety of duties and maintenance tasks associated with the Sandbridge Beach Operations group, such as:
Operating various types of equipment such as Tractor, Beach Groomer, Loader, Four-Wheel Drive Beach Truck, Packer Truck, Mad Vacuum, Sweeper, and Skid Steer – as well as various power tools
Clean up litter, trash, and debris on beaches, the boardwalk, and Atlantic Avenue
Sand removal and grading
Set up and take down for special events
Removal of dead sea life from beaches
Trimming/weed eating and maintaining sand fences/split rails in public accesses
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.
Work Schedule:
5:30 am to 2:00 pm Monday-Friday - off-season
5:30 am to 2:00 am - 7 days a week (April 1st to November 1st)
Work schedule will be seven days a week from April 1st to November 1st, and hours will vary to meet Resort/Sandbridge demands. Some night hours are required during Special Events
Employee will receive an additional 5% during peak season
*****This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work in excess of their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow), and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies ***
***CDL Hiring Bonus - The $4,000 CDL (Class A or B) Hiring Bonus is for newly hired employees only. The bonus will be paid in three increments during the first year of employment.
- $1,000 with first paycheck
- $1,000 first pay period following six-month interim evaluation (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
- $2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
