The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire an Adult Protective Services Investigator for the Adult Services program in the Social Services Division. The ideal candidate will have experience working with and understanding the needs of older adults, people with mental illness and or a developmental / intellectual disabilities, to include experience assessing risk factors such as health, environment and safety, conducting interviews, creating service plans, discharge plans, linking with community resources and managing a caseload.
Duties:
- Investigate Adult Protective Services referrals within policy requirements of allegations of abuse, neglect, and /or exploitation of adults that meet criteria for a valid report.
- Assess client’s risk factors, physical and psychological capacity with the Uniform Assessment Instrument (UAI) to determine client’s service and related financial needs.
- Complete intake assessment for Adult Protective Services report.
- Gather, interpret and apply interview and related investigative information to accurately assess and direct client to services and resources.
- Conduct face to face interviews with alleged victims, alleged perpetrators, and other collateral contacts.
- Assess vulnerable adult's cognition, physical, mental, and functional abilities.
- Collect and evaluate relevant information to make decisions related to investigation, services, and outcomes.
- Develop an appropriate service plan, referrals, and community resources.
- Complete documentation and casework within required timeframes based on local and/or state guidelines.
- Coordinate and collaborate with appropriate licensing agencies, law enforcement agencies, legal entities, contractors/providers, Physicians, hospitals, and numerous community agencies, to provide services to vulnerable adults.
- Provide client advocacy, as well as consultation, networking, family support and crisis intervention.
- Prepare court documents and testify in court proceedings.
A $3,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original full-time employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- $500 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
- $1000 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- $1,500 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
