The Virginia Beach Economic Development Department is looking for a Construction & Project Management Intern for Summer 2026.
The Construction & Project Management Internship offers students the opportunity to support the City of Virginia Beach Economic Development Department on real world capital improvement, site development, and business expansion projects. This internship provides hands on experience in project coordination, infrastructure planning, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement as the City advances major development initiatives. The intern will assist with construction-related research, project documentation, site evaluations, and coordination efforts that support sustainable and strategic growth in Virginia Beach.
Duties may include;
- Working under the supervision of the Project Administer and project management team to support active development projects, infrastructure efforts, and construction-related initiatives.
- Assist with project tracking, document preparation, scheduling, site research, and coordination of technical information.
- Review site plans, conceptual drawings, and development proposals; assist with drafting summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support cross-functional collaboration between Economic Development, Planning, Public Works, and external contractors or engineering firms
- Conduct field or desktop research on zoning, utilities, transportation access, and site readiness to inform development decisions.
- Assist with the preparation of project reports, presentations, and briefing materials for leadership and partner agencies.
- Maintain project documentation, ensuring version control, organization, and accuracy.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings, construction progress discussions, vendor coordination, and related communications.
- Complete other project-related duties and tasks as assigned.

Schedule & Hours:
Candidates may work up to 20 hours per week, with flexibility depending on academic requirements. The internship will take place during Summer 2026, with an anticipated start date in May and concluding around August/September with schedule flexibility as needed. The applicant is responsible to provide their own housing and transportation to and from work during the internship.

Required Education:
Candidates pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, Urban Planning, or a related technical field.
- Eligibility: Must be a currently enrolled student (in an associate's, bachelor's, master's degree or PhD program) and be in good academic standing as determined by the school, college, or university.
