Do you want to explore librarianship? Do you love working with kids or teens and books? Bring your 
unique talents and perspectives to library work and make a difference right in your own community!

This is a unique opportunity for a teen, ages 16-19, who has not yet started college and is interested in getting a 
firsthand opportunity to explore librarianship. This internship invites a student to discover what interests 
them at the library, design and implement a project to explore those interests throughout the course of 
their internship, and investigate other aspects of librarianship as well. The ideal candidate will have great 
interpersonal skills, be customer service focused, have an interest in diverse populations, be interested in 
working in libraries, and have youth or teen focused future career ambitions.

$20.2692/hour, no benefits, working approximately 10 hours per week between June 8 and August 28.
Preferred work hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm with occasional nights or weekends,, but are flexible based on the candidate's availability. Funding for the 2026 Teen Internship Program is made possible with Library Services and Technology 
Act (LSTA) funding.

Position Duties

• Assists patrons with basic library tasks.
• Assists with library programs.
• Assists with book displays.
• Designs and implements a Connected Learning Project that aligns with both the 
  intern’s interests and the library’s goals and mission.
• Maintains the confidentiality of library records.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be ages 16-19 and a high school student at the time of application.
• Basic knowledge of libraries.
• Ability to maintain effective verbal and written communication with staff and public.
• Working knowledge of computers, Internet, copy machine, telephone, audio-visual 
  equipment, Microsoft Office Suite, LinkCat, and Canva.
• Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
• Youth and teen focused future career ambitions are preferred.

Other Qualifications

This work is performed in an office environment but does involve lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing and pulling objects on wheels weighing 60-80 pounds.
