This seasonal role supports the Sun Prairie Utilities team with hands-on work in building and maintaining our electric or water distribution systems. It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills, work outdoors, and be part of a team that keeps our community running. Applicants must be at least 17 years old and have a valid, non-probationary Wisconsin driver’s license.
Pay Rate: $17.00/hr. (Returning workers eligible for $0.50 increase with current rate of one returning LTE at $18.00/hr.)
Position Duties
- Provide manual labor assistance to crews during the installation, maintenance, repair, or replacement of water or electric infrastructure
- Accompany full-time staff to assist in residential meter exchanges or to perform visual inspections of exterior utility equipment for damage or wear.
- Execute post-project site cleanup, including backfilling, seeding, and ensuring the work area is returned to a safe and professional condition for the public.
- Accurately record maintenance activities, GIS coordinates of assets, or equipment information into digital or paper data-logging systems.
- Assist in routine cleaning and cosmetic maintenance of well houses and electrical substations and surrounding property.
- Assist in the unloading and organizing of materials such as water meters, insulators, couplings, and hardware to ensure crew readiness for daily operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, usually acquired through a high school diploma or GED.
- Requires a valid, non-probationary Wisconsin Driver's License.
- Must be capable of standing for extended periods and performing repetitive manual tasks in varying weather conditions.
- High degree of attention to detail regarding surroundings, particularly when working near equipment, water lines, or in the road right-of-way.
- Knowledge of operation, safety, and efficient use of maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles is preferred.
