Description
Assists line technicians in the performance of their work; does related work as required. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a Line Construction Crew Leader.
Essential Functions
- Assists line technicians in the construction, maintenance and extension of electrical power, lighting and signal systems.
- Supplies line technicians with materials and tools while they are involved in line work.
- Prepares conduit, cable and related materials for installation of de-energized lines.
- Assists in the construction of new overhead distribution facilities;
- Helps install poles and guy wires; digs holes for poles;
- Helps set transformers; makes up load break and non-load break elbows;
- Digs holes and trenches for poles and guy wires;
- Sends tools and equipment to line technicians working on poles.
- Stocks trucks with required materials, supplies and tools.
- Lays out materials for job site; keeps job site free from debris and unused materials.
- Keeps tools and materials properly stored on truck.
- Participates in safety training and equipment inspections.
- Places traffic control devices at job site and assists with traffic control.
- Observes line technicians during work process; Patrols work areas to keep unauthorized people away from job site; Cleans and repairs tools; Operates line trucks and other vehicles and equipment.
- May be required to be on stand-by or work trouble calls.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Requirements
Education & Experience
High school diploma (or GED) is required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Some knowledge of electrical utility work, equipment and materials; ability to understand and follow instructions in both oral and written form; ability to use tools and operate equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Physical Requirements
Requires the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some very heavy work requiring exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils. The worker may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
