About the role

About the Department

The City of Reidsville is pleased to announce a vacancy in our Treatment Plant Operator Trainee program. This is an exciting program for people looking for a career that improves the quality of life for their entire community. As our next Trainee, you will be given the chance to transform water from Lake Reidsville into clean, safe drinking water for the residents of Reidsville and Greensboro. You will learn how to treat sewage so that it can be safely discharged into our local creek system without harming our native wildlife or vegetation. You will earn the satisfaction of working in a career that makes a positive impact in your community every single day.
During your apprenticeship with the City of Reidsville, you will learn to operate both our water treatment plant and our wastewater treatment plant. Approximately every 90 days, you will move from one plant to the other, learning and working beside experienced treatment plant operators with technical knowledge and hands-on experience. You will be given the opportunity to participate in formal training at the state level, and you will sit for certification exams in both areas. After receiving your certification(s), you will be eligible for placement at the plant of your choice, upon the availability of a vacant position. If there isn’t a vacancy at the time you earn your certification, you will have the option of continuing to rotate between the two plants or focusing on only one plant as you work towards additional certifications.
If you are looking for a career in a field with continuous opportunities and job security; are committed to excellence; believe in high quality service delivery; have a desire to take care of people; enjoy the opportunity to learn, grow and make things better in your community; want to be part of a supportive team; enjoying a great place to work, this is the opportunity for you!
During the trainee portion of this position, the normal schedule is from 7:00 to 3:30 shift, Monday through Friday. Once you are ready to operate the plant(s) independently, this position will transition to 12-hour shifts, with weekend shifts and overtime.
