NATURE OF WORK: Provide support to the City of Owatonna’s efforts to inform, engage, and connect with residents, businesses, and community stakeholders. This role provides hands-on experience in public sector communications, digital media, and community outreach while contributing to meaningful civic initiatives.
Position Duties
- Assist in creating and publishing content for city communication channels, including social media, website updates, newsletters, and press releases
- Support public engagement efforts such as community events, surveys, and outreach campaigns
- Help monitor, maintain and update the city communication channels to ensure accurate and timely information/response
- Draft and edit written materials in alignment with the city’s voice and branding
- Collect and analyze engagement data (e.g., social media metrics, survey responses) to inform communication strategies
- Assist in developing visual content using graphic design tools (flyers, infographics, etc.)
- Support internal communications initiatives for city staff
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Must have a valid driver's license. Successful candidates will have some post-secondary education from a program in public administration, communications, marketing, or a related field. Must be proficient in the use of computer equipment and software including word processing and web-based systems.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong organizational, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects, creative thinking, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
Other Qualifications
Hours of Work: Position will work in the office and have flexibility in schedule within regular business hours of 8am – 4:30pm. Temporary position could work up to 40 hours per week.
Physical and Mental Demands: Position requires reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
