Job Status: Regular, Full-Time; Union Affiliated Position - Montana Federation of Public Employees (MFPE) - Local #8514

Position Duties

  • Patrol parking districts with three-wheeled scooter, or other assigned Parking Commission vehicles to identify and enforce parking regulations using license plate recognition hardware/software; issue parking citations on foot while using hand-held ticketing devices.
  • Locate and report vehicle immobilizations. 
  • Identify and report safety issues, nonfunctioning equipment, signage, and paint issues.
  • Perform parking lot utilization surveys in designated areas.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding parking regulations and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned, based on training and qualifications. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn rules, regulations, and procedures for enforcing parking violations.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn Missoula Parking Districts and Missoula area street names and block numbers.
  • Knowledge of and ability to promote department safety considerations, City safety policies, OSHA standards and guidelines, including risk management techniques to reduce exposure to injury, damage, and liability.
  • Skill in operating office equipment, various computer software and databases, including Microsoft 365, and the ability to learn job-specific applications and equipment. 
  • Skill in multitasking in a fast-paced environment, while providing effective customer service.
  • Skill in professionally and sensitively serving distressed citizens, with the ability to resolve conflicts with facilitating outcomes while maintaining a calm demeanor.
  • Skill in safely operating various tools, vehicles, and other equipment.
  • Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to maintain and foster a culture of professionalism, adhere to departmental and City standards and specifications, and support a positive team environment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to learn departmental and City of Missoula practices and procedures, including Missoula Municipal Code and Montana State regulations related to parking.
Working Conditions:
  • Position requires the ability to lift and maneuver 30 lbs. or less.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to unavoidable seasonal weather conditions, occupational hazards, and physical risks, including high traffic areas, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Duties may require walking for long periods of time.
  • Position involves frequent interactions with the public, including various agitated individuals. 

Other Qualifications

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to two (2) years of customer service experience. 
  • Must have a valid Montana driver’s license with a verified acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
