Under general supervision, provides assistance in operating various aquatics attractions and programs; performs routine custodial and maintenance work at the Aquatics Center; responds to questions from the general public; assists with facility tours/admissions, and area reservation set-up and take-down; may assist lifeguards and instructors in performing rescues, CPR, and first aid; performs related work as required.

Position Duties

  • Assists guests with use of the facility and attractions.
  • Distributes and cares for equipment used by guests.
  • Assists with facility custodial maintenance duties.
  • Maintains pool deck, locker rooms, and related areas in a clean and orderly state.
  • Monitors locker rooms and enforces pool rules and regulations.
  • Performs set-up, take-down and related procedures for daily operations, swim meets and other events.
  • Assists lifeguards and swim instructors as needed.
  • Works effectively with the public by providing information, assisting with facility tours and front gate admissions, and ensuring birthday party areas are maintained.
  • Assists with swim meets, special events and community recreation activities.
  • Assists with emergency procedures.
  • Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to work as a team.

Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using aquatic equipment and facilities; beginning through advanced swim strokes. Methods, materials, and equipment involved in the maintenance and operation of swimming pools.

Ability to: Pass initial test and routine follow-up skill tests regarding pool and safety procedures. Swim with proficiency and endurance. Organize and direct activities, and effectively teach aquatic skills. Read, understand, and carry out written and oral directions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, staff, and other agencies. Exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with staff and the public. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and work varied shifts, including nights and weekends.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of applying. Any combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge and abilities, is acceptable.


LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and pass the swim test, will be invited to attend CPR, AED and First Aid certification school through the City of La Mirada Aquatics Certification Schools.  Attendance to Certification Schools is mandatory.

Other Qualifications

Buccaneer Bay water park at Splash! Aquatics Center will be open beginning, May 16, 2026 through September 26, 2026. Positions require availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates with open availability will be given preference when hiring.

Applicants who successfully pass the swim test may be invited to attend an Aquatics Certification School.  Completion of the Aquatics Certification School is required. Attendance is mandatory.

***Orientation and Training Dates***

Human Resources New Hire Orientation, Thursday, May 28 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
CPR Certification School: Saturday, May 30 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment requirements which include live scan fingerprinting and a medical examination as part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass any portion of the above processes will be disqualified and removed from proceeding in the selection process.
