About the Department
Under the supervision of the Community Services Coordinator, Pool Manager and the Lead Aqua Aerobics/Aqua Therapy Instructor, the Aqua Aerobics/Aqua Therapy Instructor implements, instructs, monitors, and educates patrons on fitness and safety in the pool, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all patrons.
Position Duties
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must possess current Red Cross CPR/First Aid Certification
- Valid California’s Drivers License
- Comparable experience in Aerobics or Therapy settings.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work outside in varying temperatures; a majority of the work is done in the summer months where temperatures can exceed 100 degrees on a daily basis.
- Must be able to withstand exposure to sun and water on daily basis.
- Must have the ability to walk, stand, sit, speak, lift, have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout.
Duties:
- Develops and teaches aerobic exercise programs in the water; providing adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching and cool down.
- Instructs patrons on effective workout methods and explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises, identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen and tone specific muscles.
- Prepares and makes available appropriate equipment and music for each class.
- Assists patrons, answers questions and maintains a positive environment for all patrons.
- Keeps management informed of pool activities, facility needs, and any safety problems or issues.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge In:
Must possess knowledge of water aerobics/therapy teaching strategies and the incorporation of these techniques to music.
Ability To:
- Ability to cooperate and work well with City Staff and the Public.
- Have the ability to be professional and motivate patrons
