Provides basic reference and circulation assistance to patrons (in-person and on the telephone) and to assist with monitoring staff in the assigned Reference or Circulation area.
The employee will have the responsibility of:
· Overseeing the daily activities and staff of the assigned Reference or Circulation desk
· Assuming duties of the Library Supervisor (Circulation) in his/her absence, if assigned to Circulation desk
· Performing para-professional library reference work
· Adjusting patron fees and transactions when assigned to Circulation desk
· Maintaining periodical collections, including processing new issues, weeding back issues of newspapers, and maintaining select publications
· Reviewing professional journals and publishers’ catalogs and makes recommendations for purchase of reference and nonfiction materials, if assigned to Reference desk
· Overseeing the activities needed to obtain the return of overdue library materials or the payment of overdue fees, as assigned
· Overseeing payment(s) for lost and damaged materials, if assigned to Circulation desk
· Keeping the reference and periodical collections in proper order, if assigned to Reference desk
· Assuring assigned library unit is prepared daily for opening and/or closing
· Assisting patrons at public computers terminals by helping them logon and giving them basic instruction in the use of computers and internet search engines
· Using advanced searching skills to locate information in online databases, when assigned to Reference desk

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
· Two (2) years of college (60 semester hours); and
· Two (2) years of library experience; or
· Any equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements:
· Must have a valid Texas driver’s license within ninety (90) days of hire
· Must have a valid driver’s license by date-of-hire
· Must be able to work one evening per week and Saturdays
