Performs entry-level, professional, planning and research work. Work involves developing local plans and programs, reviewing plats, site plans, zoning cases, preparing reports, and making presentations.
The employee will have the responsibility of:
· Assisting in performing planning functions related to current and long-range comprehensive planning and municipal development, land use management, economic development, urban development, comprehensive growth, annexation, and special projects as assigned
· Collecting, organizing, and analyzing social economic, population demographic information and physical data required in the development of strategies, plans or programs
· Responds to inquiries regarding zoning and land use regulations and prepares zoning verification letters
· Preparing staff reports for Board and Commission meetings, including staff reports regarding plats, zoning requests, subdivision variances, zoning variances, and orders of design compliance
· Preparing agendas and agenda packet materials for Planning and Zoning Commission hearings, Heritage Preservation Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Tax increment Reinvestment Zone Board
· Placing zoning notification signs on property and takes site photos for all zoning requests
· Assisting in developing and writing ordinances and amendments for consideration by the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council
The work environment will require the employee to:
· Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in high and precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
· Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in land use planning, urban planning, public administration, or related field; OR
· Associates Degree in planning or a related field along with three (3) years’ experience in public sector planning or a related field
Special Requirements:
· Must have a valid Texas driver’s license within ninety (90) days of hire
· Must have a valid driver’s license by date-of-hire
· Must be physically capable of moving about on construction work sites and under adverse field conditions
