About the Department
The City of Jefferson is now accepting applications for an Outdoor Recreation Lead for our Parks and Recreation Department. This position assists in the implementation and operation of a safe and effective outdoor recreation program.
Position Duties
Develops and executes a variety of outdoor recreation program activities including hiking, camping, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, archery and outdoor skills classes.
Oversees activities or facilities held for Binder Campground or through Binder Park as assigned.
Assists the Program Manager in running and maintaining the Ropes Challenge Course.
Supervises outdoor recreation instructors when the Program Manger cannot be at a program.
Reports any concerns or incidents directly to the Outdoor Recreation Program Manager.
Utilizes strong decision making skills when put into a difficult situation during any of our outdoor programming.
Greets, leads and interacts with patrons during outdoor activities.
Ensures the safety of all participants while promoting a fun environment for both patrons and staff.
Travels for different outdoor recreation trips in and out of Missouri.
Attends annual Ropes Challenge Course training at the end of May and other training assigned by the Program Manager.
Works under the supervision of the Program Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
Physical: Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift 30 pounds and walk over one mile in rough terrain. Must be confident at heights and able to wok in extreme weather conditions when needed.
Mental: Ability to clearly and effectively communicate. Ability to follow directions in both verbal and written form. Ability to work on programming needs without direct supervision.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; must be 18 years of age and at least one year of experience or extensive knowledge of outdoor recreation skills in at least one of the work areas as evidence by having completed college coursework or ropes course certification approved by our Parks Department. Supervisory experience ins preferred.
Experience in planning and executing outdoor recreation activities is preferred.
Must have training and experience in teaching all age groups;set up ropes courses, which includes inspecting and maintaining ropes course equipment and elements.
Must be First Aid/CPR Certified, Lifeguard and Wilderness First Responder certification is preferred.
Must obtain ACCT and/or PRCA training.
Ability to travel for 3-4 days during TREK programs when needed.
Other Qualifications
This part time position is anticipated to work year round to help maintain our outdoor recreational programs. The ideal applicant must be able to work a flexible schedule Monday-Sunday, including weekdays and weekends to meet the needs of the community with a majority of hours worked during our peak season(April-October).
