About the Department
The Lunch at the Library intern position is a great opportunity for high school students to gain work experience, develop leadership skills, and make a difference in their community. Interns will help support a free summer lunch and activity program for children and families at the Imperial Public Library. This hands-on role includes assisting with meal service, leading enrichment activities, promoting the program, and helping with general library tasks.
A scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded at the completion of the internship.
Position Duties
Program Support:
- Help with Meal Service: Set up the eating area, hand out lunches, and assist with cleanup.
- Prepare Supplies: Make sure materials for activities and meals are ready and available.
- Track Participation: Keep count of how many people attend and help with simple paperwork.
- Lead Activities: Support or guide crafts, games, or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities for families.
- Collect Feedback: Pass out and gather surveys from participants.
- Promote the Program: Help spread the word in the neighborhood, including passing out flyers door-to-door with staff supervision.
Additional Opportunities:- Learn Office Skills: Assist with tasks like photocopying, organizing papers, or entering simple data.
- Help with Library Displays: Create or update book displays and activity tables.
- Be a Program Ambassador: Learn the rules of the program and help explain them to visitors.
- Build Life & Career Skills: Gain confidence, communication skills, and workplace experience by working closely with library staff and library patrons.
