Schedule: Variable; must be available for overnight shifts (7:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.) during Orange Flag activations

  • Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
  • Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.  
  • Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

About the Role

The Support Staff positions provide frontline assistance for the City’s summer sheltering and outreach initiatives. These roles are essential in ensuring individuals experiencing housing instability or crisis have access to safe shelter, resources, and supportive services.

You will work collaboratively with Community Safety staff and community partners to support operations, engage with clients, and assist with basic case management and resource navigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support operations during Orange Flag activations (extreme heat response), including overnight shelter support from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
  • Build respectful, trusting relationships with individuals served through outreach and shelter programs.
  • Assist with basic case management and connection to community resources.
  • Support Housing First Plus and street outreach/engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure a safe, welcoming, and organized environment.
  • Assist with intake processes, documentation, and general program support.
  • Promote a trauma-informed, person-centered approach in all interactions.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Professional or educational experience in homeless services, mental health, peer support, social work, case management, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations in crisis or transitional environments.
  • Knowledge of community resources related to housing, behavioral health, or social services.
  • Ability to work overnight shifts and adapt to changing operational needs.
