About the White Street Section:The White Street Section supports Greensboro’s solid waste and recycling operations through composting, yard waste processing, and related disposal services. This team helps ensure responsible waste management while supporting sustainability and environmental goals across the community.
About the Role:The Crew Supervisor provides functional and technical supervision for the Compost and Yard Waste Unit and coordinates daily operations in support of White Street Section field activities. The job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise and coordinate daily work activities of the Compost and Yard Waste Unit
- Ensure assigned construction, maintenance, and disposal operations are completed effectively and on schedule
- Support the overall Field Operations work plan through crew coordination and independent decision-making
- Maintain attendance records and employee performance documentation
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and staff selection processes
- Train permanent employees and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback
- Prepare and conduct formal performance evaluations and administer corrective action as needed
- Operate heavy equipment as required to support field operations
- Ensure proper use of safety equipment and compliance with departmental, OSHA, and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate work activities with other crews, departments, and outside agencies
- Oversee maintenance and proper operation of crew equipment
- Maintain professional communication with the public, internal staff, and partner agencies
- Participate in emergency response and non-standard work schedules as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED with 1+ years of experience in transfer station, waste disposal, landfill, solid waste, public works or a related field
- "Or" No High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of experience in transfer station, waste disposal, landfill, solid waste, public works or a related field
- Valid Driver's License
- Experience operating an excavator
- Experience using Microsoft Word
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience operating equipment heavy equipment such as a backhoe, front-end loader, or skid steer;
- Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License;
- Supervisory experience
