About the Department
Reporting to the Utility Superintendent with daily direction from the Chief Wastewater Operator and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Operator, participates in the operation, inspection, maintenance and repair of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, wells, and ancillary systems. This is a 3rd shift position working 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. with training done on 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Position Duties
- Performs tasks in the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant ensuring that it meets regulatory requirements as set forth by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA).
- Inspects and tests equipment, adjusts chemical dosages, follows standard operating procedures
- Collects samples and performs laboratory tests for process control and regulatory compliance, inputs data for reports.
- Plans, schedules, organizes and is assigned work.
- Compiles and communicates JULIE requests.
- Inputs work requests for general building maintenance and equipment repairs.
- Provides assistance and coordination with the Maintenance Division for the repair or replacement of Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment.
- Responds to citizen complaints and after-hours service requests and is subject to call in for operational problems and/or employee absences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED
- One year of experience in wastewater treatment plant operation or a related field preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
- Illinois EPA Class IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
- Knowledge of the safety rules and of laws or ordinances relating to this position
- Knowledge and skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment assigned.
- Ability to operate computers and computer related equipment.
- Working knowledge of SCADA Control Systems a plus.
