About the Department
Responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for community members. This position requires a strong focus on safety, communication and customer service.
Position Duties
- Safely transports community members to and from the community center, scheduled programs and events.
- Assist passengers, including those with disabilities, with entering and exiting the vehicle. Properly operate any accessibility equipment, such as ramps and lifts, and secure passengers as needed.
- Maintains accurate logs of mileage records, number of passengers and any incidents or problems encountered.
- Conducts daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure proper functioning of brakes, tires, lights, and other essential systems. Report any maintenance needs or vehicle issues to management.
- Maintains a professional, courteous, and supportive relationship with passengers, acting as a representative of the community center.
- Relays important information, participant concerns, needs or suggestions to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
- Provides basic information about community center activities, events and resources during interactions.
- Maintains cleanliness, fueling, and minor upkeep of vehicles at all times.
- Ensures compliance with all traffic laws, state/federal transportation regulations and organizational safety policies.
- Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession and maintenance of a State of Michigan Driver’s License. A clean driving record is required.
- Previous experience in transportation, community services, or customer service preferred.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess and maintain a valid CDL B license with passenger endorsement.
Must possess and maintain a DOT Medical Certification.
Must be able to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) equipped with air brakes.
Driving Record Requirement
Applicants must have a safe and responsible driving record. Candidates will not be considered if they have multiple accidents, excessive violations, a current suspension or disqualification, or a major violation (DUI, reckless driving, vehicular homicide, or endangerment) within the past seven (7) years.Employees hired by the City must maintain residency as follows: Exempt - within 25 miles of the nearest boundary of the City of Flint.Other Qualifications
