SEASONAL DAY LABORER

$25.00/per hour 


The City of Everett is currently accepting applications for a Paratransit Schedule Technician Day Laborer in the Public Works department. This position requires work at our main office in Everett, WA. This job is temporary; up to 6 months in duration. This role will begin June 1, 2026,  and is expected to end on November 30, 2026 . It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon the employees request at the completion of employment. These positions are not provided with City of Everett benefits.


SCHEDULE AND HOURS: This position offers up to 40 hours per week.


NATURE OF WORK:

This position is responsible for public contact work scheduling transportation services for individuals with special needs This position is also responsible for establishing and maintaining respectful, courteous, and positive relationships with coworkers, customers, and outside agencies.


Work involves receiving, processing and scheduling passenger's telephone requests with available Paratransit resources, using a computerized scheduling program.   This work is characterized by the nature and extent of transportation service requests from passengers and the need to discuss and handle over the phone the special needs of individual customers.  Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed periodically for adherence to established policies and procedures.


Work is performed primarily while sitting in front of a computer terminal and involves telephone communication with customers.  Employees must be able and willing to work all hours of Paratransit operation.


Illustrative Examples Of Work

  • Match passenger service requests with transportation resources in order to schedule passengers, drivers and vehicles.

  • Make schedule adjustments to accommodate passengers; cancel reservations.

  • Prepare efficient daily trip sheets for Paratransit drivers, which include passengers, drivers, and vehicle schedules.

  • Receive new passenger requests for service; review and enter required confidential biographical information into computer database; process passenger information changes; and update information in passenger database.

  • Maintain accurate files, records, and other information.  Maintain confidentiality of records, including following proper disposal methods. 

  • Maintain radio communication with Paratransit drivers regarding schedule changes, or to monitor mechanical problems with the vans. 

  • Provide telephone assistance and information in a courteous and respectful manner to customers, drivers, and related agencies when changes to scheduled transportation occur.

  • Provide information to passengers, families, and associate agencies regarding specialized transportation services and eligibility requirements. Refer service requests to other appropriate agencies.

  • Receive complaints, comments, and suggestions about services and routes from the public; forward information to appropriate department supervisor.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Modern office principles, practices, procedures and equipment.

  • Telephone etiquette and the ability to communicate effectively in a pleasant, calm and courteous manner under sometimes stressful situations with clients from various backgrounds. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Read maps and locate streets and addresses.

  • Operate standard office machines including fax machine, multi-line phone system, personal computers, and peripheral equipment.

  • Learn and use computer software applications relative to areas of responsibility including scheduling database, word processing and spreadsheet software.

  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.

  • Organize and analyze routine information and make independent decisions.

  • Maintain confidentiality of personal client information.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other city staff, outside agencies, and the public and relate to others in a courteous and respectful manner.

  • Maintain a work environment free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

  • Work safely and in compliance with Federal and State laws, city policies, and city standards.

  • Ability to work independently from general instructions and broad work expectations.

  • Abilityto perform essential job functions including, but not limited to, sitting for extended periods of time, effectively communicating over the telephone and finger/hand mobility to utilize a keyboard.

  • Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, and a variety of hours to include evenings, nights and early mornings.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience using multi-line phone system, and/or reception desk work experience, customer service experience and/or dispatching. 

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Washington State Drivers License by date for hire.
